Apple's browser, Safari, is now available for Windows platforms along with Bonjour service. Apple claims it is over 2 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2.

I'm a huge Apple supporter, as most people know, but a claim that it's faster than Opera has some pretty big shows to fill.

It's very possible, and I can't wait to check it out.

There was an announcement made by ID and EA Games they are going to start releasing their games side-by-side the Windows versions too.

Thus far I'm finding it true to be (slightly) faster than Firefox and IE7, but I find Opera still loads faster. The font smoothing technique is a bit blurry but turning it on low makes text too blocky and difficult to read, especially complex characters (like in Japanese and Chinese). I also miss being able to use my 4th and 5th mouse buttons as "Forward" and "Back" that I can in all of my other browsers (the buttons are set that way in Windows itself even, so I'm not sure why Safari has disabled them).

Still, overall, I like the rather Spartan appearance and it runs just fine in Vista. It also automatically imported both my IE7 and Opera/FF bookmarks upon install, very nice that.

Yea, like I said, I haven't tested it.

I do think there is a problem with Vista in general and the new Safari, I'm trying to explore the problem as we speak, it's a bit hard when Vista isn't finding network card driver, then wants to search online for it.

It is much slower than I even thought it was going to be, I know it's just a beta but wow it slower than any other browser I have every tried, IE6 is faster than this.

That's weird considering everyone else is saying it's a lot faster.

So either you're lying, or you have something wrong with your computer, and your specs seem fine, so it's hard to believe.

And it is a BETA, so it will definitely improve as time go's on.

yes its indeed slower than FF (maybe because its a beta?)

but the fonts and all look much nicer

am using it now BTW :)

As this is a beta, is it secure to use (or at least as secure as FF)?

This is not a new Engine, this engine is very much an old engine, most of the KDE browsers run it.

The Gecko engine is not the only engine out there.

Apple have taking the KHTML stuff and tweaked it a lot.

Everything is safe, it's the user that causes the problems, don't go to sus sites.

No, I am not Lying and No, nothing is wrong with my PC:smoke:
It just is slower, but it is only beta and I bet the numbers they used to compare other browsers and Safari were from a mac environment, not windows IMO
EDIT: That was my experience, it felt much slower, myspace took a year to finishing loading and so did other pages :/

Hard to say, I've been testing on Vista then for a little while, seems to be very snappy for a beta browser.

And no you can't change the gray, the gray = Mac :)

Not that I'm aware, it's all part of the other rendering Engine.

The browser though is suffering from a major memory leak as i have found out. For me when i start a Quicktime movie Safari goes way up to taking 500-600Mb as reported in the task manager.
