Guys, i dunno if you noticed this, but you're discussing about personal taste. Now if there's something i've learned about the internet then there's really NO point doing this. Nobody wins and it goes on forever.

I played the 1st when at my relatives house when I was a little kid.

and then for about 20 years I forgot what it was called..............:infinity:

    and then 10 years ago, I remembered.

and now I wish they would redo it.

others have tried. but the fan made remakes of the 1st one look too shiny and bright..

Once, my parents tried to show my then 8 yr old niece the classic, The Wizard of Oz. After only a few minutes, she stood up and announced, "I hate black and white movies", and left to go play games on her IPad. I believe she's still never seen the film.

    Her loss.

I understand your point but im much older than that little girl (niece) and ive seen pretty much everything when it comes to gaming as ive been gaming almost every day give or take since the around 1979/80. So ive seen it all wheras the little girl in your example is young and not interested in the wizard of Oz because of her age and generation, she is simply not interested because its old.

With me im not interested because ive been there and done that over and over and over again so your principle with the little girl does not apply to me as my reasons for being uninterested are because of experience and not stubbornness. The little girl may not have been there and done that but i have multiple times over and that i was im not interested.

Like i said before "Same room with a new lick of paint and it wont be long before something else comes along and plays the same with the same BS sprouting story".

How do i know? Through experience dude, you get tired of the same thing over and over, you will too, just give it a few more years and you will see.

Same thing happened with Borderlands, i was fed up after the first game which was the best. Around the 3rd game even people who loved Borderlands the prequel were getting fed up and bored. It happens to every genre that fails to adapt and bring something new to the table. 90% of games are just generic rehashes and truley awesome games are a rarity today.

I purchased the Coin-op version Double Dragon (1987) on the PS4 yesterday and ive had more fun out of that than anything else.

Im going to buy myself this for Christmas, put it in the spare room and get some mates round to play some of the games we used to play years ago and compete for scores the old fashioned way. The Arcade games are still the best in my opinion.

If that's how you feel... why even play games at all?
It's all been done before. Every story, every gameplay device... nothing is original. And the idea that "nothing is original" is one of the oldest things written.

Yes, Wolfenstein: TNO is a shooter. And as such, you do a lot of shooting. A lot of cover to protect yourself.
Well, that sounds like... any action game to have come out ever.
And while it is your opinion, and you are allowed it... to simply brush off The New Order because you "think" it's the same old thing... is foolish.
Because it does things so much better then other shooters. From story, level design and pacing... character development, writing and dialog.
And the gameplay alone. Exploration, secrets, gunplay, melee, stealth...

You try using Borderlands as an example.
The first one, a great concept... but one not fully realized. Borderlands 2... that same great concept, polished and almost completely realized. An improvement on the original in every way.
The Pre-Sequel... yes, I don't like it. But it's not because people were "fed up and bored"... it's because it's a lackluster attempt by an outside studio to copy what Gearbox did on BL2.
It's not bad because it's more of the same, it's boring because it's poorly designed. It's structure isn't as polished and as well paced as the previous game.

And sorry, but to claim "experience"... that sounds like a cheap cop out. I've heard all of Rob Zombie's albums before... guess I don't need his new one because I've experienced all the other ones.

But, if this is just "the same room with a new lick of paint", then maybe it's time to step back and really look at gaming as a whole.
I don't love Wolf:TNO for being revolutionary, or doing amazing things other shooters never did.
I love it simply because it does all those things so much better then most shooters ever think about.

But, yes... your opinion and all.

There some major hypocritical bull happening in this thread. With comments for MGSV being near half and half in favor for and against that game, with some outright saying they've not even played the game because it looks, you guessed it, repetitive and or boring.

It says alot about a person and their lack of analytical and social skills when they practically say settle for complacency or dont bother playing games or either agree with me or piss off.

Well, one, that's the internet. And two, that's the gaming community. ;)

I haven't played MGSV, and I have very little interest to actually do so. But, because I don't like the MGS series. Never have. Every game in the series I tried... I hated the style of it. Konami's ultra hard on for cutscenes over gameplay always annoyed the hell out of me. :)

Yes, in the end it is opinions. Every one's will be different, and truthfully, nobody is really right or wrong.
But, people will defend their opinions with incredible determination. Not always to prove others wrong, but to prove themselves right. Because while an opinion can not really be wrong, it's always nice when others agree and back it up.

And, in some cases, some can take it as almost hurtful when something they love is brushed away by someone else who, as they see it, never gave it a full chance.

I think it's not the games fault that people find it boring, it's just they've played waay to many in their lives.

I've been playing sinds Doom and Quake, and the passed few years i've never finished nor played any of the new shooter games except for BF series and CoD games.

Rage, new Wolfenstein games are very good, i'm just tired of these shooters lol.

It's good that most devs are going for open world style shooters now cause it's different from all the linear shooters.

And customization is also a big part of new shooters also, wich is why CoD or BF won't do WW2 anymore probably.

    I would disagree with that.
The FPS genre is my favorite, one I tend to focus on more then anything. Been playing them since the days of Wolfenstein 3D and Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold.

Still, to this day... I enjoy a well made shooter more then anything.
Of course, different people, different tastes... on and on. It's all incredibly subjective and based on personal preference.

Open world isn't better then linear. Just as linear isn't better then open world. It depends on how the game is made.
Both styles can deliver great, and horrible games.

I'm not surprised you disagree with it or anyone else, it's just my opinion.

I used to be a die hard shooter fan, but after playing it for so many years and thousands of hours it tend to get boring someday.
And i say again, it's not the games fault, i have tried the new Wolfenstein games, love em but i never finish them.

I bet most people been playing shooters even before my time, i started gaming in 1998-1999.

Well, it definitely depends on the game.
There's a lot I can't stand, mostly the CoD series or BF, stuff like that. The games that try way too hard to be realistic, or go the Michael Bay "XPLOSIONS!!!!!!!" style just bore the living hell out of me.

But, anything like Wolfnestein, Shadow Warrior... stuff like that. Most recent ones I've played and loved were Dying Light, Alien Isolation and Wolf: The Old Blood (but this has been a weak year for shooters).
Where reality isn't the focus. But, again, that's almost all games in general for me. If I want reality I'll go outside.
Give me demons, monsters, aliens, robots... mutants... give me some fantasy or sci-fi. I play games to escape reality.

I don't care if BF has the most realistic weapon handling and they got this ultra boring and tedious war themed campaign. Bleh.

Now, there are a few realism based shooters I can get behind. Like the Rainbow Six series, Brothers in Arms... some the writing and gameplay are so great it works.
Others, like FarCry 3 and 4, I enjoy the gameplay enough to be able to overlook the bland story.

But, I've been picky for years.
Started gaming back with Pong and such. But, my first shooter was Wolfenstein 3D, and I loved it.
But, the planned sequel that turned into it's own game, Rise of the Triad, I hated. I found it tedious and a chore to play. It was so scattered design wise... meh.
And even these days, I found BioShock overrated, HL2 was good... but only good.

BF or COD was never meant to be realistic though.

As a single player only gamer, I have zero interest in either of those series MP components.
So, my impressions come from their campaigns alone. And BF3 and 4 tries WAY too hard to come across as a serious modern war story. It tries to be realistic, and it is horribly dull, tedious and boring.

CoD, it started okay. The WW2 entries were all right. But, then the series went full on stupid and embraced the Michael Bay formula. All style, no substance. Explosions and military porn patriotism out the ass.
Bad story telling, poor writing, bland gameplay.

I've been gaming since the 80's and love gaming just as much today as I did then. My only main gripe is the unfinished state of many releases today.

Battlefield 2 was the best online FPS game ever and has yet to be rivalled let alone beaten.
