You wouldn't use Explicit MGPU in a chiplet architecture.

I also have a hard time believing Nvidia is going chiplet in that way next gen. I believe they'll move to chiplet in servers before it ever hits gaming.

Because they have them whether they want them or not (4090 is cut down) and they can sell them for like $2000+ and sell them. It's just more money.

that's not bad advice unless you play only 1st person shooters w/ RT
6xxx gpus have improved performance over time ("fine wine") - big time diff in fps between launch and now - and don't say anything about re-sold mining gpu's.

i have both red and green gpu's in different systems. and as the number of titles w/ RT is few and skewed to 1st person shooters i really don't care about it even though i've bought 2 gens of RTX.

it's all about price/performance at the screen res you choose, i've been at 1440p for three years and i just switched to 4k, which makes Nvidia even less of a value proposition - again, unless your thing is RT 1st person shooters.

at this time i'm building a new gaming rig and i already have everything except the CPU and GPU

"normally" the 4090 would be on the list, but it's overpriced by hundreds of dollars, which bring us to the (very) unloved 4080, also suffering from ridiculousness of price. the 7900XTX is right where i want to be - except for availability so it's getting scalped almost to the price of the 4080. the 4070ti is gimped and even though they mysteriously "found" $100 to cut from the price it's underwhelming and has too little VRAM for 4k (to my taste).
so that leaves me @ 7900XT, which is very simply the best gpu for the money on the market today - if you're @4K and don't need to go over 120 fps like me. my monitor is the ROG pg43uq oled (it can be tweaked to 138Hz on DP).i'm glad i spent the money on the monitor 1st as i play mainly mmorpg and rts - where i can get all of the eye-candy w/o penalties like the 1st person performance hit ( @ ultra)

exactly, the 7900xtx is currently the best choice after the 4090. Its ridiculous that they would even sell performance cards with 12gb. The 4070ti is about the same performance as the 3090/3090ti and those cards came with 24gb… why is 12gb suddenly okay when games are already using more than that.

it’s too bad because the 4070ti would otherwise be a great card if it had a minimum of 16gb. I can’t recommend a card like that to a guy who is going to be using it at 4k for years to come. Like you said earlier, amd cards age well.

Can you ask for a refund if you drop below 60fps ?

    slightly off topic...

if i was earning an income as a content creator, particularly in film production where 8k is not silly, i would definitely buy a 4090 or the rumored ti

as a gamer, it's just the thickest and longest E-Peen. and for E-Peen lovers that matters, nevermind the scarcity of monitors that can output the maximum fps @ 4k.

to be fair, there's a subset of enthusiasts who will buy this and i don't mean to insult them with "e-peen". that subset are the folks who buy the best and hold it for the generation. and even some of those folks are just casual gamers who don't "need" the fps.
but those folks are the few, the bold, and the brave and that's where e-peen lovers try to hide.

Agreed, I upgraded as i needed to replace my 6900Xt as it was going in another build and i thought go big or go home so i bought a 4090 and its a great card, runs cooler than i ever imagined and is great when UVed.

I dont personally know any other gamers or actually anybody else who is into hardware so cant speak for people other than myself but its my hobby, it was my hobby when i had young children, was on the first rung of the career ladder and had a mortgage and all the other bills to pay. Now i dont have any of those outgoings
I have earnt my money the hard way, loads of study early on, personal and, physical sacrifice and some entrepreneurial risk, so doubtful i lack sense. i have explained this previously on other threads. Dont be jealous when somebody has a hobby that they are willing to invest in and they are in a personal situation to fully support that hobby.
Good luck in your future but be careful how you criticise until you walk a mile in similar shoes.

Why even release a 4090 ti.. You can't even get a 4090 right now. You can get 4080's no problem.. Why is that? Plus, the 4090 ti is going to be at least 2k. They are just trying to set a new pricing precedent, just like Forspoken is with its $69 price tag. That is going to start being the norm for games. Ever since everything became big corporation , everything sucks now. Bring back the 90's..

A release of a Ti version explains why nvidia put in a voltage limit on the 4090, i'm looking forward to finding a bios hack for mine to unlock that voltage.

Im not sure the North American 110V power system can handle any more than five people having a 4090Ti running at any one time :D:D:D:D:D:D

Where do you live? I have seen 4090s and 4080s just sitting on shelves and always having $300-$600 off the original price. Not sure why you cant get them because there is plenty of them in Australia.

With them? Zotac, Palit, KFA2, Gainward, Gigabyte, PNY, MSI, Inno, Asus all had problems, doubtful.
I got my Asus TUF from OCUK, zero issues. Been using them, SCAN and Amazon for years and OCUK have probably been the best over the years.
Now the OCUK forums, thats a different matter........................
