Example 1: my 4090 boosts to ~2750mhz (1.05v) out of the box. With an undervolt it boosts to 2850mhz (1v) and uses 50W less power. The card runs faster and quieter than it did out of the box. Example 2: my 3080ti had a 370w power limit. Out of the box, it would hit 370W easily, meaning GPU clockspeeds were limited to ~1800mhz. An undervolt resulted in 1900mhz for the same power use. That was the ONLY, repeat ONLY way to improve performance of the 3080ti. It's very far from putting a restrictor on it. Rather, it's gaining performance and reducing noise vs the out of the box product. My 4090 is not power restricted in any way (apart from the 500W BIOS limit). It runs at a constant 2850mhz and never requests more than 400W. What clockspeed does your 4090 run at?
I wonder if the strategy is to make space in the 2 grand area for the 4090ti? Surely it's the only way we'll see that GPU in the near-term?
Possibly but i would have thought that would come further down the timeline and only to counter anything AMD might put out. What if they introduce a new category that sits between the 4090 and the 4090Ti, maybe a 4090Si
Guys what's the max wattage you have seen your 4090 do in cyberpunk 2077 psycho settings at 4k ? My vanilla msi gaming on stock cooler fan at 80% power limit to max 100% and voltage slider max 100% on msi afterburner i can only make it to withdraw 396w and runs 2865Mhz all the time core clocks and stock memory clocks , using dlss frame generation i get 162 max fps / minimum 98 fps / 144 average. * i have not had the time to re-mount the water block hence i started testing on stock cooler , will mount again my Phantek water block later and test again * This card max tdp is 480w but it seems no matter what i do i cannot get it to use more than 400w on any game :/ , i'm thinking of flashing the spicy Galax 666w unlocked bios and see if overclocking with it gets me to pass 400w , just for testing and learning purpose.
You may be voltage limited (4090s on default voltage or more often are), which would throttle the card before it can reach the power limit. Try to set the voltage slider to default or even undervolting and see if that helps.
Cyberpunk doesn't use that much watt on 4090. Try metro exodus enhanced edition - i've had that one running at quite a bit of watt Spoiler ps. osd is in top right corner
@Dragam1337 what settings in Metro EE are you using, i maxed everything out and at the start was at 45 fps, great for a £2k card ha ha Not played this since i got my 5800X3D and 4090, think il fire it up this morning, ive been so deep in FCND (Scavenger Mods) which looks great in HDR and locked to 120fps
Ok, so I am with a nasty cold since 2 days now, my Seasonic order got cancelled somehow, therefore, since I have time now (not having to work for another week), I did what any PC enthusiast ought to do in my place, and that is I went all in, and bought the following: - 24GB MSI RTX 4090 SUPRIM - be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000 Watt - read only good things about them - only had Corsair before. - Dark Base Pro 900 Rev. 2 RGB Full Tower - be quiet! Silent Loop 2 360 mm Last 2 I bought as it is also time (I said to myseld ) to change my old Phanteks Deluxe Case, and wanted a fresh look, so went for the 360 loop for my 2700X. All in all, I did it, no more waiting, now let's see when the wife sees the bill Next week, all parts should be here, cannot wait (giggling like a 3 year old) to re-build my PC again. Will keep you posted.
Thanks , As per gpu-z is v.rel = needs more v.core than the supplied 1.1v Thanks , it seems i'm voltage limited as per gpu-z is showing v.rel at 1.1v Thanks, i do not have this game but i did tried OCCT and i wacked the power slider + power limit to 100% and fans at max 100% = it was using 469w maximum wish is almost the max tdp of this card wish is 480w , temps climb really quick to 66c core / hot spot 85c / memory 68c was a 3 minutes test , short test . I'm done testing on the stock air cooler i just want it to see if this card would get the 480w max tdp on the stock bios , fair enough 469w is very close. Now i will do same test once i mount back the water block and test some more undervolt and curve optimize power limit.
Yes I know this, playing at 4K, 4090 it’s ahead of its time so to speak, will upgrade my CPU also soon, but don’t want to shed more than 900 euros for CPU+mono+Mem. Someone mentioned 5800x3d, but did not decide if I will go amd or intel way. EDIT: ok so I’ve done some research, and yes the 5800x3d ( basically a 5800x with way more cache) looks good enough for me, plus asus x570 and some low CL 16 or 14 32GB DDR4s should do me quite well, and all under 1000 euros
I was using an i9 10900K when I got the RTX 4090 and it bottlenecked it at 1440p so much that it wasn't a noticeable upgrade over an RTX 3080 in some games.
