Why didn't they include some kind precaution into the connector? Like the stupidest thing - make one of the 4 top pins shorter and use simple HW check that will disable the card when the connector is not fully inserted (short pin is not making contact). That would effectively prevents any damage from partial insertion even for most clumsy users out there at zero cost. The latching evidently sucks when you can wiggle this thing out from full insertion. How could they approve this connector let alone for those power numbers is beyond me...
I received my Bykski 4090 TUF/Strix water block today. I checked my power delivery chips, but couldn't read what's on them, even with a magnifying glass. I took pictures with my phone but it seems that the resolution isn't high enough to be able to discern which manufacturer and model they are. Sorry @Dragam1337 .
Finally decided to bite the bullet , ( i want it a Strix but nowhere to be found ) i had only 2 options on a local brick and mortar store at msrp price. Zotac Trinity or msi gaming trio , the store only had two 4090s left , so i picked up today the msi gaming trio and is already installed on my new gaming pc. This cooler is huge and very heavy , even on my Fractal Design Air Pop xl full tower it left only about 3~4 inches from the front radiator but i love this case because is wide and the 12 pin connector cable is not touching the side panel and is free of obstruction , so no fireworks for me i hope . The cooler is great and all but i already order an EK water block and some cablemod cables 4x8 pciX 600w rated. I'm going to test it all night to make sure she is running well without problems. So far it really did double my fps in Forza Horizon 5 at 4K Ultra settings against my Strix rtx 3090 h2o , i'm impressed ! Cross fingers it never melts . I got a new monitor incoming soon 4K 120Hz so i needed it the card with the horsepower for it.
So what's everyone who's lucky enough to own a 4090 think of it? I managed to get my hands on an MSI Gaming Trio a few weeks ago and in truth I've been blown away by it, going from 3090. The former card seems completely underpowered compared with this beast, and even though the connector is a complete pain and some PCs are being melted, the kit itself is superb. To go from 45fps in Control on 3090 to 90+ at 4K without ANY DLSS and with ray tracing is just extraordinary. Indeed, the only game I actually need DLSS for to get a good framerate is obviously Cyberpunk, which even after two years won't give much more than 35fps without DLSS - but that's still almost double what the 3090 gave. Add DLSS and it's up to 60fps minimum in dense areas and 90+ in lesser ones. I sold my 3090 and the guy is blown away by the performance, but compared to this it's just a paperweight. I even got a comfortable +150 +500 overclocking without any additional cooling - it's also the quietest aftermarket stock cooler I've ever had on a graphics card. Oh one other thing - this card only needs 850W PSU. My C850 by NZXT is completely fine for it. It does guzzle the volts though, highest I've seen from it was 450W. In short? It's probably the best hardware upgrade I've ever had. Not cheap, but worth it.
Guys i'm having a weird issue , i left my video card running overnight playing some soft music on youtube while i slept and did not had a problems for the ~8-10 hours that it was On playing youtube videos. But suddenly when i woke up and stopped the card from playing music on youtbe i got a black screen for about 10-15 seconds followed by a reboot . After that black screen episode it has not stopped doing it :/ , it might take 1 minute or 5 minutes or 10 or 1-2 hours but it's doing it very often. Same symptoms every time , while on iddle or browsing the web or watching youtube the screen loose video signal i can only see the black screen on the screen for approximate 10-15 seconds followed by a whole system reboot. ** Update ** I have found the culprit of the problem and it's related to the driver power state , in the nvidia driver: Power Management Mode if i select normal it will do the weird black screen and reboot thing , but if i select maximim performance i won't do it never again. Anyone else with this problem ? I already updated the gpu to the latest Bios using msi center , it updated from Bios 220 to Bios 230 using msi center tool , even after that Bios update the dang gpu still doing it if i select back the normal mode. I guess my gpu does not like to be idle and/or at low power state ? Can anyone share an opinion or help on this issue , please ? i only have 29 more days of warranty with the brick and mortar store to get a full refund. Should i wait for an update of the new drivers or new Bios fixing this issue ? What could couse this issue ? By the way i played cyberpunk2077 for ~3 hours and Forza H5 for ~4 hours at 4k max settings without a single problem. That's 7 hours non stop gaming on the card *
Thanks for trying to help but ,the utility says " already updated " At this point do not know if it's a driver bug , firmware bug ,video card faulty or OS windows 11 , since i just was playing cp2077 with no problems with the selected maximum performance in the driver instead of normal i'm more incline that this might be a software bug :/ , do not know , i need more help if anyone has a solution i would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Well , the black screen issue while on desktop idle or browsing the net is widely reported to be a driver bug on some systems as well as " HAGS OFF " in some systems , hags on windows 11 needs to be On in order to work properly. Welp i have hags On and still have the problem. I manage to stop the black screen by using maximum performance in the driver instead of normal , but it uses a bit more power ( ~60 watts ) and runs full clocks all the time instead of using normal mode wish downclocks and it uses ( ~15 watts ) . I will wait a bit to see where this is going and hopefully a solution will be made wide available for those of us suffering black screens issues while on normal mode in the driver ... https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/ys08im/nvidia_confirms_4090_driver_issue_with_video/
That might be the solution. I've never Had this blackscreen issue. Maybe Just because I Always Set the PCIe Link Power State to "Off" since Like forever
Thanks for trying to help. I am already running on max performance on the power options on W11 so my pciE link power state is already Off. If anyone knows how to fix this issue please let me know , appreciate it. Thanks.
Hm, not sure. Check if you have any PCIe power saving features on in your mainboard's BIOS or if your Mainboard BIOS needs an update for better RTX 4090 compatibility.
Man these cards are awesome. I'm extremely happy with the performance gains. All the games I'm currently playing are without DLSS and the framerates are still phenomenal. I'm about to test Spiderman Miles Morales. Such a good week for big releases.
Uh oh ... it seems a lot of people are having the same black screen problems as me , waayyy too many nvidia users are reporting the same issue exactly as i have it :/ , links here: @ManuelG , any news on a fix for this black screen problems ? https://www.overclock.net/threads/massive-rtx-4090-problems-driver-or-hardware.1801381/ https://www.overclock.net/threads/r...from-source-nvlddmkm-cannot-be-found.1801799/ https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/yuqhag/rtx_4090_black_screen_issues/ https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/yxk0ff/nvidia_has_a_fix_for_geforce_rtx_4090_and_rtx/ https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforc...90-driver-crashing-constantly-without-any-lo/ https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforc...uf-rtx-4090-reboots-my-pc-when-idle-or-watch/ https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...lddmkm-cannot-be-found.3784023/#post-22845991 and many more if you type nvidia rtx 4090 black screen in google.
Have you tried DDU yet? My first time update to 526.98 didn't DDU. After that my 4090 won't let PC shut down. Yes, PC is still on after the shut down screen. and DDU saves me again lol.
The 1080ti was indeed a monster of a GPU with a long shelf life for us. The 4090 is giving me the same level of excitement. So many technologies to enable for a wonderful gaming experience along with its brute power. I don't even overclock it anymore. It plays my titles beautifully at default OC clocks.
I was actually resentful of the 1080 that @Mei Meigi mentions because I loved my 980Ti SLI and the pure horsepower of the 1080 didn't quite match them. I didn't want to swap for it but the increased VRAM meant I had to. But between 3090 and 4090? 3090 - I actually tried to buy one on release day and had to wait ages before any were available.
