There are no "real" ASUS 6800GTs if i remember correctly. They seem to have two GT wannabes: One is with a true 6800GT chip (16 pipes, 6VPs) but with only 128MB DDR1 memory all put on a 6800 NU PCB. The other one is a 6800NU chip with 12 pipes and 256Mb DDR3 Memory on an Ultra PCB.
I have now purchased HL2 online and started playing CS:S. Sometimes i get some artifacts when playing. Not all the time, but only at specific places. I never got any artifacts at doom3 or in 3Dmark with all pipes enabled. Is there something about CS:S or is it the card?
Hi there! First of all, thank you so much for this great utility. I have managed to enable the extra Vertex Unit in my ASUS V9999GE 6800 card. I also got the extra Pipeline Units working too; but although they were stable, artifacts of varying severity were exhibited across applications. Here are the details: (Clock settings are at 350/1000 thoughout | ForceWare Version is 66.70 | Units Masked: Bit00 = PU0, Bit11 = VU3) Before Softmod: 12x5 Each benchmark was run three times. 3DMark 2001 SE: 1st: 15,341 2nd: 14,950 3rd: 15,008 Average: 15,100 3DMark03 V3.4.0: 1st: 8,905 2nd: 8,923 3rd: 8,889 Average: 8,905 3DMark05 V1.1.0: 1st: 3,805 2nd: 3,778 3rd: 3,794 Average: 3,792 Softmod: 12x6 Each benchmark was run three times. 3DMark 2001 SE: 1st: 15,467 2nd: 15,190 3rd: 15,213 Average: 15,290 (+190 over factory) 3DMark03 V3.4.0: 1st: 9,079 2nd: 9,096 3rd: 9,060 Average: 9,076 (+171 over factory) 3DMark05 V1.1.0: 1st: 3,910 2nd: 3,920 3rd: 3,926 Average: 3,918 (+126 over factory) No artifacts exhibited in any benchmarks or games. Softmod: 16x6 Each benchmark was run only once. 3DMark 2001 SE: Score: 15,513 (+313 over factory) Artifacts were exhibited in all tests, but only on the 2D text-overlays. 3DMark03 V3.4.0: Score: 9,931 (+1,026 over factory) Artifacts were exhibited in most tests, but Game Test 2 (Proxycon) and Game Test 4 (Nature) ran almost flawlessly, exhibiting a single split-second artifact on the 2D text-overlay. The other game-tests had more noticable flaws. 3DMark05 V1.1.0: Score: 4,340 (+548 over factory) Strong artifacting in all tests, especially in Game Test 1 and Game Test 3. Some artifacts were exhibited in these games: DOOM III: Ran almost perfectly, but with slight artifacts on the larger monsters and on the marine helmet-visors. Bump-mapped textures in the environment remained untouched by artifacting. Slightly noticable performance improvement over factory settings. UT2004: Ran almost perfectly, with slight artifacting that mainly appeared on the 2D overlays and in the game-menus. Any performance improvements were not noticed over factory settings. FarCry: Ran with artifacting, mainly in the indoor areas. Outdoor areas were generally untouched. Slightly noticable performance improvement over factory settings. . . . Thanks for reading, I hope this helps.
No Go BFG 6800 OC, 66.81 drivers Pixel unit 0, vertex unit 3 hardware masked It does enable both units OK, but I get artifacts in 3dMark03. There are "checkerboards" during the PS 2.0 scene, which are pretty bad, and also during the Mother Nature scene the water is shows these same "checkerboards", although not anywhere near as severely.
Yay! BFG 6800 OC (stock settings - 350/700) 61.77 ForceWare Drivers 3Dmark03: 7405 66.71 Beta ForceWare Drivers 3DMark03: 8407 NOTE: Pixel unit 3 and Vertex Unit 4 hardware masked 16x6 Major artifacting 16x5 No artifacts noticable in 3dmark03 or doom3 3DMark03: 9234 EvilJeff: Maybe try only enabling the Pixel Shader Unit, instead of both the Pixel unit and vertex unit Time to overclock and break 10,000!!!!!!! Also, I can't wait for the 66.71 final release. The beta drivers are a little buggy, but the performance increase was noticable. Thank you Unwinder and Rivatuner. PS Is it possible that the Vertex unit is causing artifacts because of the stock overclocked settings of the BFG6800OC? Would the artifacts maybe go away at the standard 6800 speeds of 325/700?
Aww AlecRyben, that sound really bad if you'r right about asus, I'll find it out. And I see what you maybe mean, asus 6800 GE is gamers edition, someone in this topic talked about it, it is normal 6800 with 256 mb memory and somthing that makes it GE. I'm not really sure, maybe the clokcs. But it's way expensiver than 6800gt. EDIT: Hey, you weren't wrong, the didn't have real GT, but now they do, this is "new" card, see http://usa.asus.com/products/vga/vgaindex.htm "NEW" flashing right behind the cards name. http://usa.asus.com/products/vga/v9999gt/overview.htm (some VERY foolish bundles, webcam and games...) High-Speed GDDR3 memory interface I don't believe that they have 3 year warrantly in Finland, as they say. It propably means just UK and USA, too good to be true. I'm so happy that it isn't how it was. There aren't any reviews yet (I didn't find any, if you know, tell me), but I suppose it's same as other 6800 gt:s, with difference that it has 128 mb memory and some different asus own cooling system.
Both the ASUS V9999GE and V9999GT/128 have been on sale for a while now... neither is **NEW** and both were clearly detailed by AlexRyben The V9999GT/TD/128 really only has DDR-1 RAM, despite what the ASUS website says (see various topics on the NVidia part of this site) and costs around the same as most 6800NUs here in the Netherlands (a little over 300 euros), and is basically just a 6800NU which has been slightly overclocked and with guaranteed working 16 pipelines. Without the 256MB DDR RAM at 1 GHz this card can't compete with proper 6800GTs, and will probably lose out to the V9999GE in higher resolutions and with higher levels of AA/AF. The BIOS from the V9999GT does make an excellent BIOS to flash into 6800LEs, though, after they have been softmodded to enable all the pipelines.
Asus 9999GE Review: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/nv40-7.html Here in Germany the card is priced at about 360€. Full GTs are about 390€ to 460€ depends on brand.
Purchased two Leadtek 6800LE's One is running 16.6 nice and smooth. Excelent. The other one wouldn't do even 12 pipes. I found out that this Leadtek had Hynix AF22 2,2 ns memory (removed the heatsink and checked it myself), but it won't go past 860 MHz on memory. Maybe they lovered the volatage on memory. Does enyone know what memory voltages on 6800LE's, NU's are, and could they be increased through bios? I would check it with multimeter but I don't know the check spots. Thanks. Oh, and thank you Unwinder
Somebody should sue Asus for telling wrong info on their site... I was going to buy that card, I'm not supporting fakers... Damn, now I'm looking for a videocard again...
Since the 6800LE runs at 1.1V instead of 1.2V (which the 6800NU runs at), many people who after after higher overclock flash a NU BIOS. This gives 1.2V operation and works fine, allowing higher overclock. So far the Sparkle 6800NU BIOS and the ASUS V9999GT BIOS seem to work best (both offer 1.2V operation). See lots of threads around guru3d forums for info on what and how (I've personally not done any BIOS flashing yet myself). My 6800LE also has 2.2ns RAM and with default cooler (which is identical to the reference 6600GT cooler bizarrely and has no RAM heatsyncs) and 1.1V operation I can run the RAM at 850MHz easily enough. Having opened all 16 pipelines I can't get the core above 350MHz, however, but even this gets me a 9700 3dmark03 score (and more importantly excellent fps in high detail in all games), so I'm not complaining.
Gainward 6800le Pixel units 1 & 2 disabled, Vertex 3 & 5 disabled. All work fine! Have'nt OC'd yet, but I get no flaws in 3DMark05 and get an increase of 35% in my score compared to stock settings. Thanks Unwinder! If you have a Paypal account I would'nt mind sending you a few bucks since you just made my card a lot more valuable
the Leadteks puzzle me ! mine's a 6800nu, and it will do 400/900 16x1 6vp all day long. it's *supposed* to only have 2.8ns ram ! but if thats indeed the FACT. it should only do 800 memory. thats all my Gainward 5900XT would do with 2.8, well it would do 850, but it slowed down a bit so 800 was the majic number. things that make you go hmmmmmmmm
would be good, to have 2 polls, one for 6800 and one for 6800LE. you can´t see if "12pipes, 6vp" is succesfull 6800LE to 12 pipes or just 6800 with 6vp instead of five.
Ok, I now that Asus cheats, how about Sparkle? Check this, click the middle, 6800 nu, I'll get one at pretty good price http://www.sparkle.com.tw/ It says "GDDR-3" memory and 16 pipelines, is this a cheap trick like Asus v9999 gt? If it has 6vp, it's GT or Ultra with slower clockspeeds and less memory? oh my god... I'll examine some more. This one looks good, but maybe I should go for 256mb GT...
Re: Yay! EvilJeff: Maybe try only enabling the Pixel Shader Unit, instead of both the Pixel unit and vertex unit Tried it both ways, no luck
