I just bought a tp link wr340g wireless router.if i plug my internet connection directly to my desktop pc , i get 94 mb\s in speedtest, but , if i plug my pc trough the router with network cable, not wireless, i get 72 mb\s it won't go higher then 72 mb.My question is , is it normal ? or i did something wrong ?
My internet connection is a 100mb\s ethernet.

I bought a Linksys 4200 wireless router not long time ago and I have the same problem. I have 90+ MBit/s when connected to my "normal router" which is for the IP-phone and around 70Mbit/s when connected to the wireless router which in turn is connected to the other router. I guess that the wireless router is to blame but I can't find out why exactly it "steals" around 20Mbit/s. My connection is actually 100Mbit/s down and 10Mbit/s up and the "up speed" is still around 10Mbit/s, only the "down speed" is affected.

Stupid question maybe, but is your cable Cat5 or Cat5e/Cat6?

Just asking because Cat5 doesn't handle 100Mb/s very well.

I use Cat6 only, does anyone not use Cat5e or later anymore? And since we have pretty much full speed when not connected to the wireless router, I don't think the cabling is the problem but somehow the router is, just don't know how and why exactly. I have actually a 1000Mbit connection (according to the router itself) to the wireless router, but 100Mbit connection to the Internet, in this case a switch somewhere in in the buidling since I'm on LAN. I can actually easily bypass my wireless router and have the full speed but then I can't manage it from my computer and can't share files between computers that I have on USB stick connected to it. I don't even care much about that speed loss, I am just curious if someone knows what exactly that happens and it's interesting to see that I am not alone having this kind of problem.

May I say, that your router is ancient?

Almost surely it is too weak to handle 100Mbit at full spead, so from my point of view it is absolutely normal (regarding your speed via router).

Oh man... I feel so sorry for myself...
    And my country...
Here i have the "fastest" connection in my area: 6Mbit down 512Kb up
Fastest speed availiable in the country (for public consumers, not companies) is 30Mbit down, 2Mbit up....
    For christs sake !
The worst thing is it costs, in US dollars, around: $30.00 a month (the 6mbit one, including taxes)

On the bright side, I will never be bottlenecked by my router ! xD

Your router have QoS turned on?

And if it does are the bandwidth settings for it setup properly?

Yeah I don't know what you're complaining about tbh...

I have a 10Mb connection (even tho it's ADSL2+), 100Mb is only in my dreams. lol

I was going to say he might be streaming media or moving large files across his home network and the more bandwidth the better.

His router specs are weak though, 8MB RAM would choke on many things.

My pc network card won't work on 100MB Full Duplex , it only works on 100MB Half Duplex. If i force the card to work on 100MB Full Duplex , it only works for a few sec , it loads the web page partialy , Speedtest won't load.I have Cat5 and one that says Networking Cable 10/100/1000MBIT/S.

Ya I should have mentioned he might want it turned off.

All in all though its just a weak router, the OP should be happy for what it is, probably the cheapest router you can buy.

Slightly OT, but can you upload some pics of your fan mod in that other thread? I'm thinking it might give me some ideas......I have some old P2 and P3 fans lying around.

I wish I had taken pictures but I didn't. Its similar to the mods done here.

    http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=72517

    or here

    http://www.dd-wrt.ca/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=402727&sid=ae62fc4b33ca8c16814bd0cde16e11eb

Next time its open (if ever) I will take some pics. Mine looks totally stock when all assembled, I didn't want to cut the original case like some people did to mount fans.
