    Delerium,

As the url says, that new 9500 board is a PRO board. So far no one has spotted a 9500 non pro board with the ram chips all above the GPU.

    Hi!
Can some one please, please, PLEASE help us from Italy with this mod??

I know that in a few weeks there will be a software that will 'transform' a 9500 128MB NON PRO in to a 9700 / PRO, but we would like to made the hardware mod.

After all these incredible news of the hardware mod, alot of us whent to get the Sapphire ATLANTIS 9500 128MB NOT PRO. Even me I will get that graphic cart on next week.

Here is a shot of the graphic card in case that we can get in stores here in Italy:
    PCB http://www.sapphiretech.com/media/9500/9500boardshot.jpg
    Retail Box http://www.sapphiretech.com/media/9500/9500boxshotsmall.jpg

All of the people here that got this graphic card made the resistor hack and then the bios upgrade, BUT THE MOD DIDN'T WORK!!!

We think that the bioses used/tryed are not the correct ones because no one of them active the new 4 pipelines available.

Can some one tell me if there is some user here that have ever made the resistor/bios mod with a Sapphire ATLANTIS 9500 128MB NOT PRO with success and, most important, with wich bios???
Can you share that bios with me??

Can you tell me everything you know about the features and particular things that a 9500 128MB MUST have for to be used for this hardware mod to be shure that we will get a WORKING 9700 128MB /PRO???

Thank you... and please, please, PLEASE help us with this thing.

    PIRATA!

Once u make the hardware hack on a 9500 non-pro 128MB, u essentially turned it into a 9700 non-pro so u have to use the hacked bios for a 9700 non-pro to overclock it to 9700pro version.
Maybe u guys used the wrong bios.

You must run it only once after installing new drivers.

The changes are reverted after the Catalyst reinstalling.

The changes will take an effect only under OS, where you installed patched drivers. So you may have regular R9500 under w9x and R9500 modded to R9700 under wxp.

One press-sample of 128-bit R9500 64MB from ATI (i.e. reference R9500 board) and two Sapphire Atlantis R9500128MB (256-bit bus). I need to specify the last board brand (it was tested by other person).

RivaTuner will allow to overlclock any R300 based board (including FireGL X1/Z1) if overclocking is not locked in the drivers (DeviceID based protection). If overclocking is locked, you'll have to change BIOS (just reset bit 1 of byte 0x74 and increase checksum by 1) or use SoftR9700 script.

Yes, two of them (as I've stated before).

    Unwinder,

Thank you for all the work you have put in this script and RivaTuner.

I can hardly wait to test this out on my new Radeon 9500 128MB card.

    I'm betting my 9500 128mb np from newegg.com
    The description:
ATI OEM RADEON 9500 128MB DDR BULK
    Specifications:
    Chipset: ATI RADEON 9500
    Memory:128MB 128-bit DDR memory
Supports the new AGP 8X standard (2.0 GB/sec)
Unique VIDEOSHADER™ engine uses programmable pixel shaders to accelerate video processing and provide better-looking visuals
ATI's latest FULLSTREAM™ technology removes blocky artifacts from streaming Internet video and provides sharper image quality
SMARTSHADER™ 2.0 technology allows users to experience complex, movie-quality effects in next-generation 3D games and applications
    OEM Box (see pics)
Powered By ATI Manufactured By Saphire Technologies Model#: RADEON 9500

unwinder: Now I know that it's 256bit instead of the stated 128bit. My question is, is this the same Saphire card you tested?
    -Thanks in advance.

And anyone know why the others are having so much problems with the hardware trick?

    Different RAM...

Yesterday I ordered the Sapphire 9500 128 Card and I just recieved it - but it's a bit different than the one on Digit-Life/Overclockers.ru, the layout is the same and the PN number on the top left is the same, but two things are different

    1. the cooler is the same big black one as on the 9700

    2. The RAM is not SAMSUNG but INFINION and they are 3.3 ns not 3.6 ns

Although it should be better I'm not sure! I sure hope the RAM will be able to reach 600 at least.

Unwinder thanks for your great work

I cannot wait to test it.... I think I'll just sleep for 2 weeks ;)

I love to see a crowd going nuts :D !!
Guys, ATI is not a small company, it will not be possible that they change layout of their cards in a short period. Even if they notice that this is happening, they won´t be able to change the layout and production line in 1 months. Otherwise if this remains true that it was not the intention in the first to ship 9500 based boards on the 9700 PCB it is possible that other cards will show up in the stores. But interrupt production now, would cause sells for ATI cards will go down in the very beginning of rolling out their newest cards. I don´t believe that ATI want this to happen, especially while this is the first time ATI was fast enough being able to beat nvidia performance wise.
On the other hand I believe that ATI is pretty aware of that extra feature. I would assume that this was the intention of ATI for raising market share, a little breath of hacking, to satisfy the needs of the hardware enthusiasts. That would have been an amazing marketing idea, if that was not happening by fault.

    regards

Read the first post of this thread:

"Unwinder's attempts to unlock additional 4 pixel pipelines in RADEON 9500 64MB have succeeded at last, so his SoftR9700 patch script can turn any 128-bit R9500 into 9500PRO and any 256-bit R9500 into R9700 without soldering resistor on R300
    GPU and loosing warranty"

If you have the 9500 non-pro 128MB then you CAN upgrade into a 9700 non-pro on a software level. The software Unwinder is working on replaces the hardware modification part. If you want to overclock it to 9700pro specs then you'll need the hacked bios to unlock it.

I agree with you even more if you consider that the best selling market niche is 9500's and not 9700's. Think about it: in the first moment ati releases the entry level card, and the top performance one, then when they understand that the great part of the 9700 they wanted to sale, are sold, they release the 9500, with a "small bug", which gives the opportunity to dramatically increase the performance of these cards, in this way they have the chance (and i think they did it) to destroy nvidia even in that price level where nvidia sold a lot with ti4200. If i was the owner of a 9700pro i would be very very angry.

Thank you unwinder for anwsering my question about wich boards you've hacked the software way.
But I'm still wondering about the other one(above).
Can anyone reasure me that any 9500 128mb non pro will be hackable, or are there versions wich just won't work due to different hardware from the 9700's?

Please let me know, I'm itching to go out and buy one like the connect 3d...

Thanx again, and happy hackin' !!
