    Thanks for the RC16 release. Much appreciated.

    I'm holding off upgrading my vid card to the 79xx or 7950 GX2 hopeing for fan control options via temp's if they should come. I see others may be posting reports to help.

    Question:
    I'm having a major brainfart....(bare with me I'm in my 50's) I used to have a shortcut on my desktop for starting the Hardware Monitor. For the life of me, I can't remember or figure out how I did it. :frown:

    Can ya give me a hint?

    Yes, and speaking of this... I think my last post may have been missed. Unwinder, is there anything I could send you to look over to help determine why fan control doesn't seem to be working even in this new version? I have a BFG 7900 GT and I used this guide to change the fan speed. Unfortunately, it reported speed at 100% and it's still extremely loud.

    I did find it strange that my only two options for fan speeds were 100% and 25%... I can move the slider to all the numbers between those two, but when I hit apply, anything under 100% is automatically declared to be 25%.

    I'm really hoping this isn't a result of the whole "only eVGA has fan controls" issue I read about before RC 16 even came out...

    Omg... X1900 OCing that *isnt* a major PITA, buggy, doesent work, gets reset at random intervals, crashes.. but in fact, works exactly the way this sort of thing is supposed to work... *check for reality disfunctions*

    Then just open the server, add a profile for this application's .exe and disable all the hooking options to prevent the server from seeing it as 3D app. That should do the trick.

    Sure. Open launcher tab, click "Add new item" then select module activation item type and press OK. Set low-level module type then select "Hardware monitoring" module in the module names list. This will add an item to the launcher, which will activate hardware monitoring module. Now you can create a shortcut to this item by right-clicking it then selecting "Creates shortut" button from the context toolbar.

    Thanks, I clearly see that PWM is driven by register 10F0 on these chips. Now please try to use the following command line switches to set 50% and 100% via direct access to PWM controller rather than via the ForceWare:

    to set 50%:
    RivaTuner.exe /wr10f0,8200040a

    to set 100%:
    RivaTuner.exe /wr10f0,8000040a

    If it will work (and I'm almost 100% certain than it will) - we'll need a tester with 7900GT and non-working fan control to do the same on his system. It will show if fan is physically connected to controller on that card and ForceWare simply refuses to set fan speed due to some reason (VGA BIOS lock?) or not.

    I tried running RT with those paramters both through a Windows shortcut and through DOS. The fan didn't change at all, but also RT didn't actually pop up or anything (I don't know if that was intended).

    Odd question, but how about a hex (or whatever that is) for 25%, since that seems to be the only number besides 100% that will register when using the sliders to set fan speed?

    It doesn't seem to me that the fan is completely disconnected from the controller... RT reports that it's spinning at 100%, so that's got to mean something...

    I don't know if this will be any help but here's a snapshot of mine running at 100%, all it ever does anyway...

    Nothing is supposed to pop up after that. That command just writes GPU register and immediately returns. And I must say that after seeing zero result (of course, assuming that you're experienced user and you haven't mistaken anywhere) I can say almost with 100% warranty that non-EVGA 7900GT lack fan control at hardware level.

    But it does seem for me. And I've already repeated that there is no reference fan duty cycle monitoring for G71s available in the current release.
