As AMD opens up a can of performance that is just baffling, we have two more reviews to offer to you today. These are crazy times in the desktop processor landscape. CPUs with 24 to even 32 processor cores are slowly becoming the norm. AMD just released their 3rd generation of Threadripper processors, based on ZEN2 cores the performance is just staggering in each and every way you look at it:

I think that Intel Core i9 10980XE graphs should also be updated with the Threadripper ones, so it would be actual to real life. Intel doing shitty things again, moving their NDA back for 6 hours, so they could have the crown...

That already was done at 3pm when the Threadripper 3000 embargo got lifted.

I knew this was going to be good, but this exceeding my expectations by a very very wide margin... This is the level of performance I'd expect from the TR 4000 series.

Sure, it sucks it isn't backward compatible with older boards, but for this level of performance, I'd say that's a sacrifice very much worth making.

That's a substantial improvement from the previous Threadrippers. Very impressive. I was previously doubtful about the worthiness of an upgrade (since it requires a new board) but this has quelled any such doubts.

i read the review... honestly i am expecting a bit more bump from 3960x
i wonder if mobo optimization different that cause it ? 3960x using gigabyte vs 3970x using Asus one
3970x is great, but again the price is $2k
looking at those benchmark i more impressed with 3950x than before... its really good for its price

never tought I would say this but sc..w the 50fps loss in clock dependant games I'm sold
(for those who missed my post I benchmarked borderlands 3 recently with a 9900k @ 5.1 and @4.2 just to see how much clock speed mattered..it didn't I lost 0.3fps for a 900Mhz drop no joke)

add to cart :D (when available)

Thanks HH. Excellent reviews today as always!

Quick q, do you know if frybench show any difference with SMT disabled?

Well, at least Intel still has the lead in power consumption.

:eek::eek:I know one of the reason why this is so powerful in workloads
check out the insane memory/cache speed difference between my 9900k on an asrock taichi ultimate and this monster
EDIT: apparently AMD has that advantage since previous threadripper and Ryzen 3000 I just never checked those numbers until recently, still this gen is even faster crazy

I hope you won't mind me direct linking your review screenshot on these forums Hilbert it made for an easier comparison
Please excuse my "spam" it's like I get my 1st car all over again :D

    HOT DAMN.
    Unreal performance, simply unreal.

We're entering a new era of computing, everything else before these CPUs are made completely obsolete.

    Some great numbers there, impressive.

The Intel 10980 is a lot cheaper but then again it is caught by the 3950X which is even cheaper still. The Intel part overclocks well but then the power shoots up. AMD pincer movement !

I think these results today also show how good the 3950X chip really is, especially at that price.

Other random reviews left and right show them beating the 9900K in most gaming benchmarks (probably due to the insanely big and fast cache and memory bandwidth).
Literally the ultimate CPU Anno 2019.

Obviously huge cost difference, but this is a no-compromise CPU. Max of EVERYTHING. Complete crush in every way... except for cost. But oh well.
