I'm still waiting for something that definitely crushes my 690, I'd even take a 50% performance improvement at this point but if I'm forced to upgrade because of VRAM alone to max newer titles before something better comes I'll be pissed off.

Or I just won't buy any new games for more than £10 until they release something better.

Hmm, am i the only one that isn't to impressed by the speed? I was expecting faster cards.

The 970 does seem like a great card though. Best bang for buck.

Do not worry... We need to get 390x and whatnot lol :) If the cards were slower and cost the same nvidia would have released utter crap. Iirc this is how it has always been with new releases the cheaper card beats the pricier.

    Thanks for the review!
Seriously tempted to get 2 or 3 of these.
Gibbo over at ocuk overclocking with the stock bioses and +87mV allowed:

So theres that. Almost 1600MHz on air with very little additional voltage.

I've never tried Three-way SLI, bet that will be great for 1440p if I choose the 970s over 980.

I suppose ref 970s for SLI is the best way to go right?

Ok this is the more the way i like it. Both cards offer a solid performance increase (20% max), very good power profiles and above all, decent prices, specially the 970!

So i guess my next card is gonna be a 970 because the 980 is simply too expensive for the extra 20% performance if offers. The question is what 970 i should buy.

Now i just have to wait for the cards to be available in Portugal and that the prices aren´t ruined by Portugal´s lovely VAT and taxes...

    Great review as always!!!

Hmmm upgrade from 670 looks to be a damn good move right now ... but I only really want a new gpu for Witcher 3 .... Wonder what the chances are of 20nm coming out before then ... probably fairly low

Nice 970. Think I'll wait and see what AMD has to offer before I jump the boat on this one.

Hopefully AMD has a better price/performance ratio for their best card.

I want to hold out for gm200 but at the end of the day i only buy what i need and i reckon 2x980s would do me good at 1440p 100fps until 4k 120hz screens become available. When that time arrives we will probably be on GM300/GM400. Tough decision indeed.

Well man you can afford to wait until witcher 3 comes and get a card cheaper anyway :)

Many of the reviews seem to be claiming that the GTX 980 is around 10% faster than the GTX 780 Ti which itself is 10-15% faster than the GTX 780 but say that it more of a worthwhile upgrade for GTX 680 and lower owners.

Well, I don't think a 20-25% performance increase over my GTX 780 is too bad at all, especially as it pushes my games closer to my ideal 60 FPS (yes, I still game on a 60 Hz IPS 1920x1200 display with v-sync on). Also, it has 25% more VRAM, which is nice considering the increase in the number of games that hit 3 GB even at the resolution I play at, nevermind 2560x1440/2560x1600 or higher. I'm also very interested in trying out the new downsampling and MFAA features. Finally, there's the power saving. I'm very conscious of high fuel bills so this is a nice thing to have for me.

Can't wait until my new card arrives tomorrow. I just installed the v344.11 drivers this morning on my current GTX 780 so I may run a few quick benchmarks ahead of installing the GTX 980 as that would then give a fairer and more accurate comparison. Not that interested in running loads of benchmarks though outside of built-in game ones (RE5, GRID, Lost Planet 2, etc, etc).

    *EDIT*
Looking at the Anatech review, since Guru3D's doesn't show 1920x1080 performance unfortunately, the GTX 980 looks to offer a nice performance increase for me over my vanilla GTX 780:

    Metro: Last Light - 65.9 fps (780) to 84.4 fps (980) = 28% increase
    Company of Heroes 2 - 50.7 fps (780) to 68.4 fps (980) = 35% increase
    BioShock Infinite - 103.7 fps (780) to 130.4 fps (980) = 26% increase***
    Battlefield 4 - 67.6 fps (780) to 89.8 fps (980) = 33% increase***
    Crysis 3 - 79.6 fps (780) to 95.7 fps (980) = 20% increase***
    Crysis: Warhead - 55.4 fps (780) to 63.7 fps (980) = 15% increase
    Total War: Rome II - 61.2 fps (780) to 89.0 fps (980) = 45% increase***
    Thief (Min. Framerate) - 45.5 fps (780) to 63.4 fps (980) = 39% increase
    GRID 2 - 102.7 fps (780) to 141.1 fps (980) = 37% increase***

*** = Above 60 FPS anyway but those are averages so the minimum framerates are all going to be higher too.

Don't know about anyone else but they are pretty nice performance increases IMO.

Not really, AMD can easily drop the prices of their current cards to gain the performance/price crown again although that would hurt their margins badly.

Wtf that pricing on the 970. And I was just looking to upgrade my old non-TI 560. That price tag is crazy, I'm 100% in. Is nvidia trying to kill off amd?
