In this review, we benchmark the GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING X Trio from MSI; yes MSI is back with a new Gaming X Trio, with that TRIO, of course, short for a triple-fan solution with an otherwise heavily customized product. With their aim to perform at low acoustics combined with a beautiful design card, let's start this review, shall we?

Wow the power draw on this is right at 1080's in SLI.

One thing I liked about Founders is that it vents out of back of card and case. None of these AIB cards vent out of case - they all just dump the heat out left and right side of card. In a normal closed case this will be warmer than Founders card.

LOL . Nvidia site. 3080 says OUT OF STOCK immediately!
    https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/shop/geforce/?page=1&limit=9&locale=en-gb

And other sites I looked at that were supposed to be available from now... are all PREORDER again already. Prices are rip off too. Much more than Founders.

And all the sites are so overloaded, that it is near impossible to see too.

"My friends, yeah, that's not a typo ... 33 DBa for the currently fastest AIB card on the globe, WTF !"

    Hahaha!

I LOVE my Gaming X Trio, definitely sticking with this line of card for my next upgrade, whatever it will be...

Is the Gigabyte Aurus with the large overlapping triple cooler fans design not better than this normal smaller non-overlapping fan setup? That's what I currently have and find it extremely quiet.

There are already reports that Ampere cards (even 3080/3070 not talking about 3090) will be difficult to find in stock for at least a couple of months - and a consequence of this is price increase by shady merchants...

So wait. If there are three eight pin connectors on the card would that theoretically mean that it could potentially draw up to 525 watts with a proper BIOS? Being that it it is 450 watts for three eight pin and 75 watts for pci-e bus? I am just trying to figure it out ahead of time and prepare myself for the 3090!!

If anyone can answer it would be a great help...

Maybe 2080Ti owners trying to flog their cards fast will a) actually sell them now or b) decide to keep them now

I don't think it's miners or 'desperate people', just ordinary folks looking for a good deal.

Sounds about right. The new 12-pin connector I think is supposed to carry roughly 650W (varying sources say different things but that seems to be the "safe number" based on the per-pin specs). I don't think the 3090 is supposed to get anywhere near that high, but the power cable was developed for future needs. I wouldn't be surprised if the 3090 does actually warrant the 3x 8-pins, at least when overclocked.

Personally, I don't like how the new 12-pin increases the wire gauge specs. Most 12v wires are supposed to handle 5A. This power connector is spec'd to carry 9.5A. Not only does this complicate the manufacturing process of PSUs (thereby making them more expensive) but it basically just gives GPU manufacturers the freedom to give efficiency a lower priority. I don't want triple-slot GPUs to become the norm.

Would this card (or any 3080 for that matter) that uses 3x 8pin connectors still boot and work with just two connectors attached?

I remember years ago a graphics card that had 3x 8pin and you didn't need the extra 8pin as it was meant for overclocking the card on like LN2 or something. Can't remember what card it was though....

My card has x2 8 pin and x1 6 pin, i noted that the 6 pin draws very little on load and i suppose it would run without it, disabling a 8 pin though, i'd imagine that's another matter?

Hah, good one. Nope, I just tried,. First the most right then the most left one. The card does not post until you have three connectors plugged in.

Although I doubt this actually needs all 3 connectors (especially if you intend to undervolt), I doubt it'll work without all of them. You might be able to trick it though, by breaching the signal pin.
