We're back at eight Cypress Cove cores, this we test a cheaper priced model, the Core i7 11700KF. Suffixes; K means it is unlocked, that F means better value as you can shave off a few bucks, this pr...

    Still rather have the 5800x.
    Intel still with shitty SKUs.

5800x is faster and uses less power, its a no brainer.

Kinda stupid how it uses more power than the 11700K overall (which is already too high). But at least the price is more reasonable.
I too would much rather get a 5800X - it is a more obvious choice.

but don't be silly it's on top of the gaming charts it is a good processor, not the best but still a very good one to have

that said I'd still recommend an Intel to a non-geek who wants something that just works, AMD is a bit too complicated for a non intermediate-advanced user, not everyone is a guru3d reader ;)
real quote from a colleague : "when I start the computer I have the logo of the motherboard brand on the monitor is that what you call bios ?"

Except it's not at the top. It only tops some charts, and even then, the performance difference is unnoticeable. So it's pretty silly to use that as a reason to validate it, when you consider all the downsides.
If someone isn't a geek, they're probably going to buy an OEM PC, at which point the steeper learning curve of AMD is moot.

What exactly is more difficult about an AMD processor? You plug both in and turn them on. I haven't had to do anything more or less with my 3900x than my 4790k or whatever.

i suppose evey cpu and board have default values

    as in
"you gotta have no brain to pick either one over 10700kf or 3900x"

With undervolt you can get 11700KF at 10700K power usage, so it's not that bad.

Intels own last gen CL is a better buy with 2 extra cores at roughly same MSRP or less.

    No OC tests?

Other than the need for PCIE 4.0, it seems the heat is higher for relatively the same performance as previous gen.

That is like asking why have i9 when i9 is just what i7 was still they remove features from the i7

Consider you cannot overclock the 11700 and 11900 very much then with the cost of the 11700 being only slightly less than the 10850k I would either buy the 10850k or go AMD with the 5800x. One gives you 2 extra cores and potential more overclocking and the other gives you better performance for the 8 cores.

Rocket lake is prices wrong, if it was cheaper than it is then it would be worth considering.

It's Intels last hurrah for this process node, but it is not much of a hurrah.

Since CL, non-K chips are overclockable, just in a different way. By raising the power limits, you get performance on par with K chips. Not sure how well it works with RL, but works with CL.

5800x at 400$. Why even consider anything else?

because there is no point in testing worse, but more expensive cpu that would yield the same results as the non F counterpart.
5600x is arrogantly priced, and AMD should not be rewarded for doing that. (IMHO). And to even consider 5600x you would need to have one of the GPUs that you currently only can get from scalpers for over $2000...

edit: Sorry, I misread - 5800x for $400? wow, get them all and resell them at $600 ez. (don't get me wrong, your reasoning is on spot, if masses can have those CPUs at $400, 5600x should be ignored completely.)

Pretty sure RL prices will go down considerably over time, likely sooner than later. Not seen any 5800x for $400, currently still at around $440+ most places.

Got 10900f @ $349. Price climbed back up not long after the RL reviews.
