We again descend from eight towards six processor cores and twelve threads, this round with the Core i5 11400F, a processor that might be considered the most high-grade value for money in the Rocket L...

It's funny how this CPU is as good for gaming as 500-600€ ones, even when paired with a 3090. People really like to pay too much for flagship CPUs nowadays, when 150€ one can do the job just fine.

Have you both read the conclusion from Hilbert? When full utilization during gaming without limits it consumes the most power from all CPUs.

My conclusion: For an all day hard-core edge gamer, this will eat both the dust and electricity faster than more expensive ones. So, from me, it is a huge NO unless you keep it purely at stock /w default BIOS settings and play with mid-ranged GPUs as a mid-range CPU this is.

I had that mindset when i got my broken 5800X.

Now i know i don't need such a CPU for just Gaming.

Im still in favor getting an 8core even if your gaming only. CPU utilization in some of the newer games are quite high on these 6cores and dont forget that Hillbert review only shows the average framerate.
For a piece of mind and futureproof i would still go with 10700/11700 or 5800x.

I do agree. The min fps avg is higher on my 2700x vs when I had my 2600x. Besides lower cpu usuage, at times the 2700x feels smoother too.

I agree and disagree , the 10700 can be found for a close price so yeah i agree , but the 11700 and 5800 are double and triple the cost if you aim for a 11400f you are doing it for the price the 11700 and 580p are in a completely different price category.

Yeah, I think 8c/16t is a good future-proofing core count. For those who just want something good now, a 3600(X) seems to be the best option - affordable, plenty fast enough, and a reasonable wattage.
I'd like to get the 5800X but too damn expensive. I'll likely upgrade when DDR5 CPUs come out. Not worth it at this point.

If it wasn't for inflated GPU prices then one could build an amazingly good budget PC these days and as long as you don't aim to push 4K.

It wasn't long ago that a budget PC would struggle badly even with 1080p 60hz. You also had to play with mid to low settings too.

Now these budget PCs can run mid to high and still hit decent frames per second.

This pretty much shows that CPU are underused in a lot of games (but not all, some are doing great work with the additionnal cores), and that developers of AAA have headroom to work on. But with dedicated PS5/XSX-S games in the years to come, i guess it will change for the bigger games.

amazing to see this match or beat 5600x for half the price, but this thing is way more power hungry that you'd like to see on a budget six core.
and I really mean that, when buying this,be aware that to reach this great, great level of performance per dollar you're gonna have to use a lot of electricity and at the very least a mid-range cooler capable of 125w,no less
we're not talking 20 or 30w more,we're talking double the power draw of unlocked 10400f.
1.48v is just ridiculous coming from 10th gen.my 10500 never saw anything close to 1.2v

great summary @Hilbert Hagedoorn ,agree with every word.this cpu is jekyll and hyde

Its beyond my understanding to see some posts with "its more power hungry"

Power hungry by how much? 60 watts full load? Thats how you justify spending more?? And are you gonna build a full load PC to even begin a real argument?

When idle power consumption is the same.

PLUS you wont end up on the "General Hardware" asking "Hi, I got a ryzen, my ram dont work. Anyone knows fix?".

This cheap intel proves once again, as past 20 years: No need to overspend on CPU unless you make money with it.
    Everything else will run fine.

Mighty fine CPU at excellent value but the mobo prices kill it right off compared to a 3600 and B450 bargain basement mobo.

oh my,that post will backfire soon
go on and find how difficult people find it to run gear1 if they have higher frequency sticks
    some can't get past 3200mhz

Those are twice as expensive. Majority of people in this world can't afford them.
