Doubt that many feel hurt over it, most are just pointing out the sad facts.
Even worse practice is that e-tailers did set some old card up by 2-3 times their original price, just check 1050-1060 prices, tbh. if they keep at that they can for my sake go f themselves, not going to use my money on overpriced products.
I sucks for people who got a card so old that it can't run anything anymore though, can fully understand that those people are outraged.

Actually more funny to compare a longtime/lifetime investment with something as shortterm as a GPU.

    Its more like

Nvidia CEO : Lets say how we help gamers but in reality lets frack them up.

Shareholders : yeah, yeah do it!

I wanted get at launch RTX 3090 Founders Edition, my plan was get at least one of RTX 3090s but sadly I have been out of luck hahaha

At the end I bought GamingPro from Palit and if its worth premium over Founders Edition, hell no, its not worth it premium over the Founders Edition at all

If people bought the RTX 3090 Founders edition for MSRP then I would say its good decision and right now seeing prices of RTX 3090s, sometimes I literally can't believe it these prices

Agree its sad on many fronts regarding pricing and seeing now prices of RTX 2080Ti, its probably good time to sell RTX 2080Ti and if its time to upgrade, I'm not sure on that at all because of pricing of GPUs

When RTX 3090 dropped or RTX 3080's prices of RTX 2080Ti dropped to such absurd prices like I bought for friend build RTX 2080Ti Strix for £450

I wouldn't paid for 3070 £1200,personally I'm not prepared pay anything like £100 over MSRP and if its possible then I wouldn't even pay more than that

RTX 2080Ti is still potent GPU in gaming and with good OC and shunt mod can match stock RTX 3080

Waterblocks are not overly expensive if you go route of Bykski waterblocks, running them and quite happy with their performance

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

    Guys....

We gathered here today, in the most grim time. New card was "released" ... the 3080ti. We always liked the Ti cards, right. 980ti? 1080ti?? yeah. And now, we have 3080ti... we all know, we cant get any card now. We know, only way to get a card is to pay absurd...no.. INCREDIBLY ABSURD AND RIDICULOUS PRICE. And I will not do that. Even if I can.

We also know, that this is starting to seriously and without a doubt threaten what we love and why we gathered here for decades, right? Our PCs. Some of us - me included - use PC since day one. 286 SX was is? Playing two jumping heads Volleyball... And before that, it was Sinclair ZX spectrum+. We went thru some sh1t... like 1mb ram costing like a newborn. But this.. today.. is something else.

Lets make a prayer for my card...

GTX 970... hold on.. if you die... its all over. U need to hold for at least 2 more years. Please. Please do.....

Nvidia: let's release the 3080Ti at almost double the msrp of the 3080
Sanity check: But, going by performance, there's really no gap for a card between the 3080 and 3090 - everyone already knows that.
Nvidia: But there is a gap, it may be 'troublesomely small' for us, but there is one...and we'll do all the usual tweaks to get the Ti there.
Nvidia: ...and we'll provide enough sweeteners to get our disruption messages across in all the usual forums - it will be fun to watch them earn their pay by polishing this turd.
Sanity check: But, the 3080Ti will still be almost double the msrp of the 3080 for virtually zero increase in performance.
Sanity check...surely that glaring fact will be picked up on.
Nvidia: Don't worry, our pockets run deep.
Sanity check: you do know you'll loose a significant number of customers, and for a long time.
Nvidia: Yeah, well we never cared much for the Enthusiast Community at all.
Nvidia: We're in it to extract as much as we can get away with, with no regard to our loyal customers. We're in it to make profit...damn, that's a good one...that's gonna make its way into the shill script.
Sanity check: Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed are not falling for this.
Nvidia: Yeah, well no free cards for them.
Sanity check: I hear Linus is mad. Again.
Sanity check: I'm outta here, you're on your own.

Had a good laugh this morning...NewEgg sent me an email entitled, "It's here!--3080 Ti (see availability)"--and of course when I see "see availability" I know there are none in stock, whatever it is...;) Sure enough, the link took me to a nVidia advertisement where I discovered that the 3080Ti is not 'here' at all...;) "Out of stock" the page says--be a lot more honest if they'd say "coming soon before the Winter solstice probably" because "out of stock" falsely implies it was ever in stock in the first place.

The Vaporware business must be very good for AMD and nVidia these days. I've never seen the like of the last six months. Apparently, AMD and nVidia produce just enough GPUs to route to dozens of Internet review sites--with none left over for actual customers. Vaporware must be booming these days.

Still curious of the 3070ti reviews

hehe yes I know you still like to have those Bykski parts running, more than willing to give it a try this time around as well. Just the supply situation with PC parts like a new GPU, let alone the price isn't very enticing at all. Don't fancy waiting months for a GPU even one would pay MSRP price here. And yes, sadly new 3070s are sold at 1200€ up here, used ones are always an option of course.

Situation's as following, with I believe, some fellow Gurus might feel empathetic with:
With the new GPU, the last one of this gen's lineup I was waiting for, building a new rig once again felt like a good time to consider. But at those prices, availability issues, and I don't even know if I could get stuff like waterblocks out of China right now due to supply chain issues and whatnot, simply doesn't feel like a fun time to build a new rig.

And I was so anxious to build my first build with a Ryzen and a 3080TI, but a genuine 1000€ premium, if I even get the parts, simply doesn't feel too satisfying. And with a full watercooling loop, and hopefully everything new, it doesn't feel like I want to do that in parts right now. :D

If you think the GPU market is sane, then you're not! :D I think it's worth pointing out by the way....the state of the GPU market that is......which is what people have been doing, may it continue until some sanity returns.

Sadly in these crazy times I think this is the only Ti card from Nvidia since 4600Ti that I will not buy...
I am quite happy with my 3080 and even this card I bought it because I was lucky enough to find it at MSRP price since I have a 2080Ti that I can sell for the same price when it was brand new!!! - crazy times indeed...
About the price/performance of RTX 3080Ti: you can say that it is much more expensive than 3080 for the increase in performance but on the other hand you can say that it is less expensive than 3090 while delivering almost the same performance....
It is a matter of perspective.

Nvidia: let's sell the 3080Ti for virtually twice the cost of the 3080 but offer 'as-close-to-zero-as-we-dare' performance gains. Let's see if our sheep notice.

@barbacot, Guru3D, LTT(back on 'track'): That sounds very reasonable. We'll help you sell it.

Bitwit, Gamers Nexus, JayzTwoCents, Hardware Unboxed etc etc etc: WTF!! are you guys insane?

@barbacot, Guru3D, LTT: Who needs credibility when Nvidia pays so much.

A sad state of affairs indeed.

it's not a slightly better "fake priced" 3080 you're getting it's a slightly worse 3090 for less money
youtubers are completely lost and forced to say whatever appeases nonsensical comments like too many here

    - did it ever occur to you that the original 3080 price was a marketing ploy and that they never wanted to sell them at that price ? not after selling 2080tis for 1000+ or worse that maybe they were losing money on them ? if you don't think this can happen let me tell you that almost all EU cars sold in the US lose money, US prices were always ridiculously low

    - do you realize that power isn't free ? in the car world we have a saying "you've got to pay to play" fast cars are expensive and their fuel consumption is high (aka watts for a gpu)

    - you're fooled by benchmarks, those cards if you have one make one thing obvious, benchmarks ceased to represent the real gap between generations, they actually nerf them with unrealistic vsync like low fps normalizing results across all cards (shadow of the tomb raider worst comparator ever stop using it !)
youtubers like JayzTwoCents recently don't help by saying wrong things like 1080p is irrelevant because it's cpu bottlenecked for the 3080ti (just like 10y ago they said 1080p was maxed and could never go faster than 90fps) it very much is relevant, 4K on the other hand shows very little of the real power of those cards with what looks like small increases
reality is going from a 1080ti to a 3090 in most games I went from 90-120fps to 200-300fps, no I didn't get +40fps like you see in some benchmarks I doubled fps everywhere almost and were not talking +30 like in 4K but +150fps in 1080p which is an insane jump, insane and very worth the money
you don't think so ? remind me, what's the price difference between a 300hp hatchback and 600hp supercar ?

also often overlooked in reviews and by youtubers (which use this feature more than anyone) where are the praises for NVENC ? I'm encoding 1080p H.265 at 131fps (263fps in H.264) it takes 25min to encode a 56min long video according to some it's "normal". it should be free and use 30 watts...riiiight I remember when I had 18fps instead

is it stupid expensive ? yes do you actually get more performance for that money ? hell yeah
the computer hardware crowd has this completely unrealistic idea that you will forever get more for the same money, if I want the fastest motorbike like a Kawasaki Ninja H2R it'll cost you 55'000USD...for a motorbike...computer hardware enjoyed reasonable prices for years but clearly that era is over

No one would be questioning the price if the performance difference between the Ti and the 3080 scaled appropriately to the price premium. Guess what? It doesn't even come close. The original price wasn't a ploy, it made perfect sense considering the 3090 was their envisioned drop-in replacement for the 2080Ti. The 3080 was priced and designed to incite the 1080Ti hold outs. Then COVID hit and mining went into overdrive.

The 3080Ti is nothing more than a cash grab. It's nvidia creating a product there was absolutely no need for so as to bump up the MSRP and cash in on shortages and desperation. They have done exactly what any corporation does when they see an opportunity and figured why leave money lying on the ground for third parties, if we can scalp our own product ourselves - and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, it's what corporations do, it's why they exist. Caveat emptor and vote with your wallets.

That said, comparing a high-end, but ultimately run of the mill mass produced GPU to a track-only specialist motorcycle that isn't even street legal? I don't even know how to describe how moronic that argument is. The 3080Ti isn't even a full fledged 3090, let alone a card the likes of what the Titan was.

Amen. Just use common sense before reaching your wallet folks. NVidia is clearly scalping on these because they can considering this messy situation we're all in, honestly any other company would do that in the same situation, real question is is it fair to do that? And those who are thinking: "...yeah, price is right for what you've have been given..." ...are not helping a bit. With that state of mind NVidia has a green light to raise MSRP prices for future GPUs even more. Not everyone wants or has enough money to buy overpriced high end GPU's for $2000, $3000 or even more. If this high GPU price trend continues next year or two it'll be the final nail in the coffin for PC gaming, no doubt.

    edit
It's not that myself or many of us here don't have enough money to buy high end GPU for nowhere to be found $/€1000-1500 MSRP (=> atm scalped at $/€2500-3000), many of us here do, but we (talking about gamers, not content creators) have to be completly drunk or filthy rich to throw that amount of cash on a single scalped GPU and put a smile on our face afterwards: "...yeah, guess it was a good buy (who am I kidding)...". One has to put a gun barrel on my head to force me to spend more than €/$500-600 on a single GPU and it'll stay like that in years that comes. If it's gonna cost more than that I'd rather buy current gen console and with the rest of the cash make some BBQ for friends and family.
