This is a bit more impressive than I was hoping for, coming from a 1080ti there are a few titles that get close to a 100% increase in performance at a 1440p/4k resolutions.

Clearly a lot of these games are running into some bottlenecks with the 3080 and 2080ti getting similar or same performance, maybe a CPU bottleneck going on there.

Can't wait to find out about the 3090 now based on pure core count that should be 10-30% better than this depending on the game.

Only thing I might desire to go along with this is a 240hz 1440p monitor, shall wait for some hdmi 2.1 version to come out with that.

Thanks for the hard work HH, look forward to the next review :)

I'm not sure what your expectations are but there's simply no hardware available that can do a consistent 240fps on 1440p in every game with max settings. I've got a monitor with the same specs but I understand the fact that the current monitors are way ahead of the hardware required to drive them.

And while Nvidia has given us a gpu that is sometimes 50-80% faster than the card it's replacing, not even the RTX 3090 will be able to give you the performance that you need. I'd start looking towards the RTX 4080 or 5080 to give you what you need.

@Hilbert Hagedoorn when does the NDA on the 3090 lift?

Judging by benchmarks 240hz is probably overkill as even with Comet Lake test setups 1440p just isn’t getting much higher than 144hz for most games.

Given the pricetag they went for, i doubt TSMC was realistic. All in all it gave them a reason to step up their cooling solution quality. :D

I know it would be tricky to do but I feel that price-at-launch/performance comparison with the 10xx generation instead of the 20xx would be more accurate. Almost anyone will agree that last gen was overpriced, even after the super release.

Im torn, I can either pick up a used 2080Ti for $550 or this for $700. The main drawback is the power consumption, for a 3080 I would also need to upgrade my 550W PSU but could hold off on that if I went for a 2080Ti. And PSUs are pretty expensive these days. I play at WQHD (3440x1440).
It wouldnt be so bad if PSUs weren't so expensive these days and I am probably looking at a 750W..850W if I want room for a 2nd GPU. Plus just swapping in a new GPU is a lot easier than basically a full rebuild required to replace a PSU.

And what is wrong with overkill? Monitors are not like a gpu or cpu where you have to upgrade them. Heck I have owned my current monitor a 144hz 1440p monitor for over 6 years now, and had no reason to change or upgrade it till now.

Now looking at guru3d reviews, many games are going above this 144hz, so yes 240 will be too much but even hitting 160-180 will be useable till i upgrade again in the future to hit those high frames.

Considering how slow monitors are updating these days, getting a new one with bells and whistles last a very long time. Also means a monitor wont be bottlenecking me for some time, as right now with my current monitor it would be, and technically be somewhat a waste of money to get. I am also looking at the 3090 to get, which will get higher fps that this card maybe closer to 180-200fps mark at 1440p which would in my eyes make it very worth it.

Just had a look at the UK E-sellers, 2080ti are still being sold from £1100-£1700 xD xD xD Would of throught they would have dropped them down at this point, guess they are hoping for some non-informed customers

    I already have a 1440p 165hz monitor and a 4k 120hz OLED TV so I'm good.

So it's not double a 2080 then, those gains over a 2080ti though should mean however that AIB 3070 is pretty much a 2080ti.

When do reviews drop for OEM models? Do OEM models launch the same date as Founders?

I guess if you’re fine with 1440p you could consider that future proofed but to me 1440p is already out of date. So that’s the viewpoint I’m coming from.

Hell in that case, unless you’re running a super old CPU you’re already probably doing just fine for gaming alone. Though I understand that’s not the only reason to upgrade a CPU.

340 Watts at full load...I wonder what its idle power consumption is.
