Any other takers on why my RAM usage does not change from 1080p to 4k (ultra settings) and tops out at 7.9gb of an available 16gb

Very interesting & useful addition to the article, thanks for testing that.

This testing is good news for 4c/8t CPU owners, because the 5960x with 4 cores disabled was only running at 4.2Ghz and is a Haswell CPU and was still achieving 132 fps at 1080p resolution. Now, if you've got a Skylake or Kabylake 6700K/7700K and you've got it clocked at say 4.7Ghz, you've already got a jump of 12% increased clockspeed in comparison to the CPU tested here as well as a slight IPC improvement over Haswell too, so 132fps x 1.12 = 148fps. So this means that I could probably expect my Skylake 6700K which is at 4.65Ghz to push about 148 fps in BFV - I'm pretty satisfied with that result! I will just need to tweak/lower graphics settings so my GTX 1070 can push 144fps, and my CPU should be alright in keeping up - inferred from Hilbert's testing anyways.

Or just keep enabled and enjoy much faster fps @ dx11?

Very nice update Hilbert, interesting stuff. Also i thought Battlefield was supposed to be one of the next gen stars games in technical terms, regarding dx12 and multi-core scaling and the result is a dx12 mode much worse than dx11 and a core count scaling that amounts to less than 10% between 4 cores and 8 cores with 16 threads at 2560x1440... Difference that grows to almost 20% at 1920x1080 and disappears at 3840x2160...
Not that it matters too much, i´m not going to buy the game anyway, still waiting for Bad Company 3.

Well, was happy playing this mp 64 map on w7(better performance, a lot) and...."program stopped working because program problem: or whatever
At my second map in like of middle tickets, sudden fps spikes(down ofc) and then info as above...
Latest nv driver, system OC stable in all I throw at it.
Good I do not like this anyway...and have only 10hrs from basic access :p

    Wow! A 90% performance boost for a price only 9% more than a 1080ti!

    Wait...

    It's only a 9% performance boost for a price 90% more than a 1080Ti.

    What the ffffff.... nvidia?

It uses that amount of RAM, why would you want it to use more if that's all it's using? I'm not sure you really understand how these things work. You think by using more RAM it's going to run faster or something? LOL
That's actually a lot of RAM. There's no reason it should use more. Means there is no memory leak which is a good thing. I'm really quite amused by your concern over a non-existent issue.

Nothing to find dude. You're looking for problems where there are none.

First I haven't played BF5 besides beta, and will probably wait for a substantial discount before getting it. But yeah, I'll probably stick to dx11 anyway, it's not like I'd be missing out on anything (yet). :D

But it still amazes me how disabling SMT does boost performance... why even bother to implemen it in the first place, wasted die space I guess? I would have to check multicore / CPU scaling in other, better working dx12 games to see if it really makes sense.

It's useful for the 4c/8t CPUs though, as seen by Hilbert's testing here. You're right that it has a negative effect in this game on 6 & 8 core CPUs as seen in this testing - not ideal, I wonder if they can do anything to patch it.

Yeah I can relate to it being of use for some CPUs, but I wonder if it's an issue of the Frostbyte engine, or dx12, or CPU design. Not sure where the issue lies... and we wonder why Intel's offering hexa and octacores now without HT...

Yeah, might be interesting to see the same CPU core scaling tests, but in DX11 instead. Ha, yeah, interesting coincidence with recent release of non HT 6 & 8 core CPUs!

Hm, wonder if DX11 is suffering the same issue, because it'd make sense to turn off SMT for me , then.

Thx, saved me a € 1000. Not upgrading to 9900K just yet I guess. Let's see what the Ryzen refresh brings.

Though let's just go into the BIOS and see what we can do about that Hyperthreading...

I just tried the new patch and Nvidia driver combo. DX12 seems fixed for me, no stuttering, no unstable frame times, FPS seems higher on both DX11 and DX12.
