Review: ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti STRIX OC

The memory bus is circa 3060ti and while i only have a 1440p monitor, I play VRChat and triple monitor sim race. This card is an UTTER WASTE OF MONEY with that small memory bus and 12GB. It will be a stuttering mess in VRChat.

 

Haha, one of the most popular PC hardware stores over here is listing this review model, Strix OC, for 1239,90 euros, while the "cheaper" TUF model goes for 939,90 euros. Yeah, right, thanks, but no thanks. No availability yet, but the prices don't look like mere placeholders, I believe.

 

Oh, it even got the Guru 3d TOP KEK award.

 

What else would you buy for that price? Of cards at that price it is a "top pick". The fact that the whole market has increased prices doesn't matter, only how it compares to other cards for similar money.

Incorrect! You never just compare prices that way. There are the only two real companies in the mid to high end segment of GPUs until Intel gets their stuff together.

If we allowed these companies to blatantly and abusively raise prices in this way and only compared them to the prices they set together then this is what happens. The prices are disproportionately raising compared to inflation and even the cost of the silicon. They are trying to leverage the abusive pricing during the pandemic and mining craze to artificially raise prices because they think they can get away with it.

LOOK at what they tried to sell the 4070 ti as initially .. A FAKE 4080 that was SEVERELY cut down from the other 4080 and you want to defend this? Then they try to say that the 4070 ti is 'up to 3x faster than a 3090ti' by not even running a benchmark apples to apples and using that fake crap frame generation that isn't even that good and only inflates benchmark scores artificially. You want to defend a mid tier graphics card sized silicon that will cost $1100 in this card? What do you gain by defending this? You gain nothing because companies don't care about you or me. They only want to make as much money as they can at any given time and it is OUR JOB to call them out on this bull and push back.

Just watched Steve on Gamers Nexus and he absolutely pummels Nvidia to the ground over this product. Its like he has fists bigger than Hell Boy and very funny it is.

Great card at a terrible price. That effectively describes the entire GPU scene. There are no "Top Picks", especially GPUs. That award should be retired until these companies stop bending us over a barrel.

 

I agree with the sentiment of your post but have you actually seen data which shows that prices are rising faster than cost of manufacture?

 

4x the rate of inflation as other segments points to greed. Worldwide average inflation over the past 6 years has goods now costing 126% of what they did in 2016. Nvidia is now at over 200%. Seems obvious.

That's 100% in 6 years, not 200%. So if average inflation is 126%, seems like Nvidia GPUs are inflation beating and actually good value??

 

I agree that there are no top pics right now, but the awards are more about the overall quality of the GPUs and they have the value we give them.

No other electronic products are having the same pice raises like some PC parts...

I suspect production costs of high-end chips has increased more than 26% due to covid and trade tarifs but yeah, hard to believe they have doubled.

One thing that is up 300% since 2017 is Nvidia's share price

 

The Top Pick award, especially on this card should be seriously reconsidered. This is a 1000 dollar version of a 800 dollar card. For the same price you can get a 7900XTX which is just an objectively better card, across the board, including RT outside Cyberpunk. Even laying aside all the other stuff about pricing...its literally not the Top Pick even in its price segment.

 

The 4070ti is finally showing up in Portugal and the cheapest one is 930€ ...

 

Uh the 7900XTX? - it beats it in almost every single benchmark lol

Apple also sells $300 phones for $1200, don't hear any complaints about that.
