Since both the Ryzen 9 3900X and the Ryzen 9 3950X use two 7nm die, but the 3950X requires that both dies be fully functional and ryzen 3900X is still somewhat hard to find you can bet that availability will be scarce the first one - two months...
Also I see that even AMD recommends to use a 280mm AIO liquid cooler for this CPU, if not something even larger. You can use "eco mode" - ECO mode results in performance decreases in the neighborhood of 10% – 15%. with total power drop in the neighborhood of the 3700X which is still great.

Maybe I missed it but the ECO mode was not tested here in this review???

Hello, how come the Vegas pro tests go so bad? 3900x has an advantage over 3950x? Please answer this question, it is very important to me.

I'm just going to go ahead and glue another 3700X to my existing one.......

... but yet again testing a $750 CPU on a $700 motherboard with $1200 GPU and expensive everything else except...
    ... weak DDR4-3200 memory.

(3600 just for the AIDA64 page... ugh)

    Why Hilbert, WHY ?

Wrong!! Please use your own brain stop repeat information found on YouTube. It’s most likely because game developers have had 10 years of ring bus to optimise with also because you have had game engine built around such technologies. Has any big game dev stated that amd is slower because of the higher latency ....nope. It may seem If you improve memory speed you get higher fps but those things are no directly correlated in all games.
From phone please for give me.

^ If latency is not the issue then explain why then AMD would sponsor a game in which both Intel and Nvidia out perform their offerings? Borderlands 3 is a recent game that has an AMD splash screen instead of Intel or Nvidia. Why on earth throw money at a game that is optimized far better for the competition than your own? Lots of factors affect latency. Everything mentioned from hardware to engines being optimized for ring bus all have an effect on latency. Memory latency is just a subpart of the latency issue. One in Which AMD still needs to address. What was their solution to mitigate the latency penalty when the IF clock does not match the MEMCLK? Faster Frequency? Tweaked timings? Both? If that right there is not admitting to their weakness I do not know what is.

And where is the CCX overclocking? Everybody knows that two CCD Zen 2 processors have a better and worse die, at least this seems to be the case with 3950X too, so you should have tested that to confirm and test how high you can overclock per CCX, multicore overclocking on these processors is nonsense.

I’m not sure how sponsoring a game has anything to do with it but are you saying that unreal engine 4 run equally good on amd and intel. Sponsored games would have something to do with marketing lol when I brought crisis it said plays best on intel extreme cpu , means jackshit. I know improved access to memory does improve some performance but if you get the same nanoseconds to what intel is you will still see that the intel is faster in gaming due to optimisation.

Intels 9900K/S is still Gaming King for 720p/1080p, but who in a right mind buys these kinds of CPU's to play with those resolutions- nobody!
Everybody who buys 9900K/S or 3900X/3950X will probably have already bought RTX2080Ti and will game maxed out minimum at 1440p resolution, probably at 2160p resolution.
And in 4K fro gaming, actually Ryzen 5 3600 is best bang for buck when paired with RTX2080Ti. :)

Everybody gaming maxed out 720p-2160p -- 9900K/S is your sauce.
Everybody gaming 1440p-2160p and rendering tasks - 3900X/3950X is your gravy
Everybody only gaming at 4K -- 3600 is all you need.

When I tune the memory on my 3900x and the infinity fabric, my latency go down, and the performane goes up :)

There is no doubt memoryspeed and turning up the IF helps in many games.

    You do you ;)

    Well written review Hilbert.

Holy crap, AMD is going in deep on intel with this 3950X.

3 years ago the most powerfull mainstream CPU was the 7700k with only 4 cores/8 threads. Now we have 16 cores/32 threads

When TR3 lands, there really is zero reason to buy HEDT from intel.

Pretty much a non-issue for anyone above 1080p.
