I originally wanted to build a 5900x PC but if I could get a 5950x why not...except we are in 2020 the year of the "koof"

    799$ USA msrp
960$ 784€ CH release price without stock
1301$ 1067€ CH real price when they have 1 to sell  official retailers decided to scalp themselves apparently

I bought a 10700K instead of a 5800X and its AMDs loss for not having enough stock out because this chip is great, I'm not looking to change.
It was becoming difficult to get hold of a 10700K at that time, no doubt due to people finding them way better value without any discount!

Bought the 5950X a little bit above MSRP back in Nov, and now it costs $100 more!!!!

Scalping really hurts all the GPU sales as well as the Ryzen 5000 which is a big shame, those CPUs are top notch.

I regret not scalping my 5900X to be honest (got it at MSRP). These prices are insane and if you are senseless enough to pay them, then by all means, do it you nitwit, you deserve to be ripped off.

yeah agree in sentiment. reality is a two faced bitch tho' as the miners can afford it. just by the hash rate increase (if using next gen gpus).
so tempted by the dark side...

Got my 5950X at Micro Center , already 4 BIOS updates , 5830 is the best , plus i had a 5800x for over month , two BIOS updates as well . Capture11731.PNG Capture11731.PNG

Hello Guys! Just got an 5900x + MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS

Installed fresh new windows 11 on NVME samsung and..

I've got a terrible energy efficiency! 110-140w from the wall!

For comparison I got 2500k@4.7 +z68 and it consumes only 73-75w in windows idle!

There is No matter if I run win 10 or with 11 - in any way it consumes 110-150w in windows idle!

I'm shocked.. I thought that new platforms much more energy efficient than old.

I tried to set eco mode 45w in bios. I see drop of power constumtion in windows statistic programs..

But there is no difference in consumption from the wall! I have a wattmeter right in my 220v socket..

I have tested many times and still got the same sad results..

I see few different articles where 5900x tested for idle consumption and it shows 70-80w

Why I have so big power draw? Maybe it because of MSI bad mainboard?

    Please help...

Wait for your hard drives to power down.
If you dont let them use power saving you wont get the best power saving figures.

Undervolt the CPU, I have a 3800x hitting 4.4ghz no issue on way less voltage than stock.

I need to compare with 5900x only. And you should measure consumption from the wall. There is no difference with lowering voltage. Still 120+w from the wall with eco 45w mode

No, its not. Ive tested the same config with z68+2500k@4.7ghz and saw 75w from the wall!

just the pc or pc + display ?
    I've got a 10700f+3060ti system w. 7 ssd's sitting at 78w (desktop idle) with a 1440p 170hz monitor.w/o the display it goes down to 46w for the pc only.
maybe it's the display that adds so much

    46w..Im shocked..
No. I put a Wattmeter on psu power cable only.
So it shows only psu(corsair 650w gold) powerdraw... Without display and speakers ..

Mine is 46w with speakers, reading on the UPS.
What is your software reading for the CPU in idle ( msi afterburner )
also, what psu are you using exactly. some units can be terribly ineffcient under light load.

I made some changes and now I see ~70w in idle, but.. That machine is used for mining with 3 gpus and when I start mining I got processor load at 17-18% and system draws ~150w from the wall (expect gpus). With intel system it draws only ~90-100w.. so it's very ridiculous that new processor has worse power efficiency than the old one..
    2500k is from 2011 Q1 .....

afterburner shows 84w in 18% load and 27-35w at 1-5% load
psu is corsair tx650m, but there is no matter, because for 2500k I used the same psu and got better results..

so it looks like its just inefficient platform and processor...

oouch..the problem was in NBminer, which drain 20% of cpu with ryzen and win11.
Changed to another miner and recuded cpu usage to 3-4%
So its now a much better, but still a little worse than old intel processors..

    you have an exhausted PSU

how long exactly has it been mining 24/7?
do you have AC filtration or power conditioning?
how stable is your local electrical utility?

the fact that it is still working is a testament to the build quality it had when you bought it.
all power supplies have a finite life based on their use and the stability of the electrical current.

if you're in a place with common brown/black-outs that would explain a lot (besides mining w/3 gpu on a 650w psu)
if you're in a place with frequent line surges, the PSU has sacrificed itself for your gear.

you appear to be both methodical and concerned about your gear so let me recommend two things:
    1) buy a first rate surge suppressor and line filter rated for 150% of your maximum usage. (nothing under $100 will do jack crap)
    2) either buy a separate line conditioner or one with filtration and surge protection built in .

every electrical circuit ever devised is susceptible to power surge (or drop), it has a cumulative effect and is the #1 cause for failure of ANY electronic device.
