im not sure the kind of people buying $300 icelake and even haswell stuff would even notice these cpus, I mean, we have the 2600 going for $85(1600af) and yet those ebay prices remain unchanged, its like they live in another reality

I think I'll upgrade my dad Desktop (currently has a Phenom II X4 with an SSD and some low end nvidia 6xx card) with one of these Zen 2 processors and make the whole rig ITX.

These CPUs are just made bread

Excellent review as always @Hilbert Hagedoorn , for around a hundred bucks they are really great value :) .

The value is unmatched, AMD Ryzen 3000 has been really impressive and i think the 3300X is the most impressive chip yet.

Thanks for the review Hilbert! It was very interesting.

I might buy one of these. I still don't use anything that requires a lot of cores.

There are a lot of interesting findings. As others had mentioned in other posts, the 3100 runs cooler possibly from heat spread over a greater area? The idle power usage was higher than I expected. It shows the Zen+ cores compare favorably to the 3100s. On the single core tests the 3300X is in good company.

I'd still rather have something like a 4400G but the 3300X could be very good for my usage.

No it doesn't - as stated before, the X570 chipset is the problem. Go for a B450 board and I wouldn't be surprised if idle power will drop below 30W. Sure, you'll be sacrificing PCIe 4.0, but I don't think most people buying such a CPU will benefit from that anyway.
Only time will tell if B550 will be any better.

That 3300X is lookin' mighty tasty as a (budget) 1080p gaming chip.

I checked my usual store, and it's marketing 3300X for 139€ and 3100 for 114,90€ (availability estimate being 11 of May). There's no way whatsoever they would be more expensive in France. Finland is one of the most expensive countries on Earth. I haven't been shopping anything from France for a long time, but back in the day I could buy a digital camera for so much cheaper from there that you wouldn't believe it.

I find buying a 4c/8t cpu now completely backwards. Especially with the 3600 costing £170 and the upcoming Intel 10500k rumoured to under cut it by $10.

Considering those CPUs don't have iGPU in them, it's still a bit expensive imo.
However, those are real Zen2 CPU and it comes with cooler.

For budget gaming, I don't think going from Zen+ (3200g) makes much difference from Zen2 (3300x), since CPU limiting scenarios are not common with budget builds (with 60fps target).
Yet 3200g comes with iGPU that can be used for casual gaming.

Just feels weird to buy 4c/8t CPU in 2020, yet there lots of game engines that have issues utilizing multicore CPU.

3300x Is crazy good, which is a bit of a shame cause it overshadows the 3100 so much, and the price difference is so tiny I could never see myself recommending it. If they end up release these chips with an IGPU attached, they would be great for media, nas boxes etc. needing an Dgpu is a bit of a shame, but if you got an old gpu lying around you're pretty golden with one of these

And yet....if it were an Intel processor, power consumption wouldn't matter.....

This would make a great chip for someone who uses their PC for a bit of work, a bit of browsing, some gentle game playing , office type tasks etc, ie your parrents, your younger children, your wife ! ie most folk :D This with a cheap B550 motherboard would let you make a good system for them and perhaps then spend a bit more on increasing the amount of RAM or perhaps a 2nd SSD for backup.

It now makes me realise my 6700k is getting a bit long in the tooth as well. I went Sandybridge to Skylake and so the years mean next year I need to see what is looking good. It's starting to look like the old K8 days for me again at the moment :D.....

It's not in France (but my location ,despite i am french, doesn't exist in the country list :) ), it's in both France and Spain... on both (and some other), we have to add the "Trump tax".

If you're wrong, I'd be surprised. And PCIe 4.0 isn't of great interest to me. I'll probably wait for AM5 to switch from PCIe 3.0. The only upgrades to the two AM4 computers I built will be the cpu. I may never upgrade the 2400G.

I'd guess most people can still get by with 4 cores for a while. Even though it could be a while before I'd really need 6 cores, I might buy a 3600. With my r3 1200, all AM4 cpus are an upgrade for me.

Yes, I am on 4c/8t and it's ok but this rig is 3 years old. Buying 4c/8t these days is backwards.

I am unlikely to upgrade for Zen3. But I may consider RDNA2+ based APU on AM5 if it has enough (20+) CUs and sufficient memory bandwidth.

This is absolutely fantastic. The 3100 is faster than the 9100F in games when OCd and destroys it in CPU heavy programs (nearly 30% + when OCd) for an extra $25, while the 4/8 3300X is neck-to-neck with the 6/6 9400F in games and is ~7% faster in CPU heavy programs for $40 less! And Zen3 is yet to come.

Haha. You don't have a clue and yet start attacking (this comes from a bigger CPU). And you don't have a clue about Zen2 sucking much less power when we compare the big models to Intel.

As karma is attacking as he hasn't even read the review (the reviewed CPUs were used with X570 mobo, it is a cut AMD CPU), so he is only playing an Intel fanboy. Poor you.
