Different gpus. 3060ti is based on 3070. 3060 is based on its own.

GK104 aka GTX680...nVidia charging $499 for what had basically been intended to become a $299 card (190W TDP, 2GB, crappy 256 bit bus, lack of ROPs), resulting in clearly limited performance in e.g. Metro 2033. But that SKU promotion was unintentional as GK110 ended up taking another whole year before it was launched as the first Titan. AMD just weren't competitive enough with Tahiti (drivers added a lot later on), so little Kepler got to be the big boy for a while. Same for the GTX690. And now you get a chip that's what, thrice the die size on a 3080 that's only $200 more expensive.

You literally just made the same point I was making about the improvement. If you launch an overpriced flagship model you need to make sure it has some wow factor rather than just being slightly faster for a massive mark up.

Had AMD launched a card with the bandwidth to comfortably win at all resolutions they could have priced it even higher and it would have still been more attractive. As it stands the 6900xt is currently just a mediocre upgrade from the 6800xt for significantly more $$$.

At these kind of prices we're talking about customers who don't care about value - that's the 200~400 bracket.

So, does it make sense to have a card that offers just 5-10% more than 6800XT and costing $350?
I imagine the "limitless budget" customer doesn't want compromises and will happily drop another $500 for proper RTX, DLSS and a ton more VRAM.

Now that we have the full picture, I'm actually disappointed in the RX 6900XT. It's also making the RTX3080 look good. The RTX3090 owners are also happy it seems. While the narrative for the RX series has changed to looking at 1080p and 1440p performance? Ok. Er no actually. I'm more forward looking than that.

I believe in time the situation could change, especially as PS5 and XSX gain ground. However, right now, at the end of 2020, it just isn't what I thought it'd be. If RTX3080 was available, my guess is that after this review they'd be flying off the shelves. There's just so many factors in favour of Nvidia right now. I believe Nvidia is offering the more complete package for PC gamers. The scary thing is if Nvidia had gone with TSMC and the same process node, it'd be even more obvious. Surely a no contest. A 2.5Ghz RTX3080? Wow.

which is exactly what the 3090 is to the 3080. AMD just copied Nvidia's performance with reduced MSRPs.

Isn't FidelityFX already an answer to DLSS?

this is exactly what i expected, excepting the part where aib 6800 did better in the shoot-out:oops: just goes to show how cool cooling is.

seriously though, once we have output from both red and green this looks to be a better card for a large segment, not just because of price.
imho, ray-tracing is only worth it once you have an HDR 600 (at min) monitor.
if you're looking for details in the shadows, start by being able to define them.
yes, you can still see a difference w/o but it certainly is not worth the price by itself if you can hit your in-game goals otherwise.
for me the 6800xt will do quite nicely and there is starting to be availability of water blocks, i can have both for less than the 6900

Just like the RTX3090 is an mediocre upgrade from the RTX3080. Or does the 3090 somehow "wow" you?

Isn't the point of ray-tracing accurate lighting?

    Nice card, but...
This year sucks. And i think AMD stinks in its way the release all their new graphics cards. And the RX 6900 XT took the price. AMD will not ship RX 6900 XT cards to Sweden. Sweclockers.com had a chat with AMD, and AMD confirmed to them that Sweden was not on the list of countrys that can order the RX 6900 XT.

Not really. There is a crucial difference. 3090 buyers are going for it due to the 24gb vram because they think they may need it (whether they do or not). 6900xt buyers basically are getting the same card as the 6800xt with just an extra 8cu.

For the actual perf diff *imo* both 3090 and 6900 are not worth it over the 3080 and 6800xt. 3090 users can at least justify their purchase due to the extra vram they believe the need. 6900 users may be wondering if the 8cu is worth $350 extra.

So after reading the review, my conclusion is that the 6900xt is as useless as the 3090 for gaming because of their price differences compared to 6800xt/3080.

The 10% performance increse is not worth the extra 350€.

Not that i matters in the end, it´s no like we can actually find the cards in stores anyway...

    Great review as always!

I was in the market for a 6800XT or 6900XT but the sales shambles meant I pounced when I saw a 3090 in store at BELOW msrp paid £1280.00 brand new in a box.
Some of the reports specifically Jay2Cents have pointed out that they are seeing weird stuff on the pre release drivers they have such as 250w limits etc so perhaps this is not the true picture, but I was kind of hoping it would be better for competitions sake, its still a fine card and lets face it AMD have pretty much levelled the field in a Generation that can only be good for us the consumer, however I will miss the next uplift out as my wife will make a eunuch of me if I buy another in 12 Months!

Unfortunately the 6900XT is also useless in productivity like Blender.
There is no reason at all to buy this thing.
