Let's review the A8-7650K APU from AMD in combo with a new A68H motherboard from ASUS. The 7600 series APU is based on AMD's Kaveri architecture bringing the CPU and the GPU even closer together. Ka...

Hilbert, H.264 / VC-1 / WMV3 hardware acceleration is supported up to 1080p on Spectre iGPU (Kaveri, UVD 4.2). 4K support was first implemented in Tonga (UVD 5).

Thank you for the great review, Hilbert!
I love APUs - for everyday jobs and gaming(not on max settings) they are a great option on a tight budget and with every iteration are getting better and better :)

For average home or office use and even gaming (below 1080p) an APU is a great deal for the vast majority of people. I have family members on both sides that game a little here and there and with 19-20" monitors, these are perfect for them. Sure I demand the best settings in my games, but they could care less. :nerd:

Did you try OCing it, Hilbert? GPU in particular?

I could be wrong, but I do not believe A68H supports overclocking the cpu or ram and GPU can be done software based.

igpu still has long way to go processing power too, but it nice start.

power usage wise use about same power as i7 4790k the apu just has better idle.

I still waiting for this amd offering that put some heat on intel to drive a pricing war

Oh amen to that. Maybe we'll see a high-end CPU next year too. I mean Intel have been mostly sitting on their asses with the i7s.

i mean dont get me wrong this great for amd i guess, but performance wise there still years behind intel.

now if they did this with say 30watt max then would be amazing feet. but that chip is 97 watts max? that 10 less that 4790k? and it cant even begin to touch intel's offering. granted that 4790k cost more.

I miss the day of intel and amd battling on who had the best processor and had prices war as result?

Amd is pale shadow of what they where they once were they use to be better then intel, they droped the ball and all but gave up. even there low power cpu/apu stuff is equal to intels offerings. low power cpu/apu or just barely better in some cases.

Now there gpu on there other had or well ATI gpu they are competitive
