I am not sure if this has been mentioned before but out of frustration of not being able to activate Resident Evil 5 because of Microsoft's glorious Games For Windows Live... I tried Activate a product on Steam, typed my cd key for RE5 in and it gave me a copy of the game on Steam. Then looking down at recent news for RE5 it actually has it mentioned there that you can do this haha.. I wish I knew this sooner. Made my day ^_^
When they removed the GFWL and changed it to Steamworks is when it started. Mine actually didn't work so I emailed Capcom support and they sent me another key.
Capcom are hit and miss... at best. And, when Microsoft made the decision to shut down GFWL (because they were launching the Store on Win8)... Capcom had to do something. Same as Warner Bros did for the first two Arkham games.
The Steam version lacks the DX10 executable unfortunately so visually it is inferior to the original release, albeit for most people it is unnoticeable.
Don't know about that. I got my copy off steam, I think. Well, it's on Steam now, and I remember playing it in dx10. Edit: Mmmm.... the interwebs tells me that it's true. Why would removing GFWL break dx10?
Now that I think about it, the Steam version of the original Crysis also has the DirectX 10 executable removed from the game right?
Steam version for Crysis has 64bit exe removed, not DX10. If you launch the 32bit exe, it will still run in dx10 by default. And about 64bit, I couldn't get the game to use so much memory to see benefit, there are rumors that 64bit is emulation mode, and you'd hurt performance by using 64bit or something. Ultimately its still singlethreaded, not matter 32/64bit.
Ahh!!.. You are correct.. I remember now, You cannot use an AMD FX cpu to play Crysis in DirectX 10 mode :T
From what I can tell it is. Are you able to play it in DX10 mode? A few weeks ago myself and Extraordinary just could not get the game to start, he has 8350, I could make it start by forcing DX9 mode.... I found a few people on Steam complaining they could not play the game, noticed they all had FX chips and come to the conclusion it was the CPU. What OS are you running? I am on Windows 8.
It's been like a year since I've played it, but I'm sure it was in dx10 mode. Also, I found this video in the Steam Forums https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsocQTyjXQY FX-8320 with DX10
Damn.... and that was Windows 10 Enterprise also.. now I'm really not sure what the problem is... I give up.. haha//
The DX10 version of the game had zero visual upgrades. The only upgrades possible are changing the precision of HDR through the game .inis and that can be done in DX9. The DX10 version, much like DMC4 offered next to nothing over DX9 other than better load times and 3D Vision support. The lack of DX10 support is the least of the Steamworks versions' problems. Besides, you can easily revert to the GFWL version anyway.
Yeah, that's what I was reading too, one of those titles where DX10 doesn't do anything but market dx10... which is pretty much all dx10 did - market itself.
