Can anyone help me get SweetFX working with GTA IV Complete Edition (the one from Steam)?

    I am using Boulotaur2024's SweetFX 1.5u from here: http://sfx.thelazy.net/downloads/

I copied the necessary files to my game path. The Rockstar launcher pops up but when it tries to load the game it's just a black screen for 20 seconds and nothing happens. It can't even launch the game. The game is loadable again once I remove the SweetFX files.

I tried disabling SMAA as well just to see if SweetFX would work with no features enabled, but it's the same issue.

Nothing in my Windows Event Viewer.

All the SweetFX log shows is:

[22:10:20] Redirecting CreateDevice failed (width: 2560, height: 1440)
    [22:10:20] Redirecting CreateDevice : successful (width: 2560, height: 1440)
[22:10:21] Using only SWFX shaders and no AA
    [22:10:21] SWFX enabled
    [22:10:21] Device->Reset succesful ! [width: 2560, height: 1440]
[22:10:22] Using only SWFX shaders and no AA
    [22:10:22] SWFX enabled

EDIT: The game is not heavily modded or anything. I just have the ASI_Loader and Fusion Fix which are pretty lightweight and shouldn't effect anything.

I don't use anything like Vulcan/dxvk that many people use. I just use the default wrapper (at least that's what I think they are called lol) that came with the game

This game has really bad aliasing and I would like to add some SMAA and even some FXAA to smooth things out.

EDIT 2: I have an Nvidia RTX A3000 with the most up-to-date drivers.

why would you want to use SweetFX? its very very old.
just get the newest ReShade and enjoy a lot more then just FXAA/SMAA ;)

its easy really, download, start it, select the exe of teh game you want to add it to, select the API the game uses (in case of GTA5 it is DirectX 11), then skip the preset part and now select all packages but tee VRTools one if u dont use VR. let it all download and close when finished.
now u can start your game and get a pop up wich will tell you to press home to start the tutorial - do what it says and you should be good.
all effect/shader changes work realtime and you see what you actually change :) SweetFX on the other hand worked diff. anyway. Use ReSHade, it is so to day the sucessor to sweetFX.

Thank you for the quick reply! :)

I was using SweetFX because that's what people on Reddit were telling me to use.

This is for GTA 4 though actually, not GTA 5. Which I believe uses DX9. Will that matter?

I will definitely give this a try.

Pretty neat tool haha. Lot of effects to play with. More than I expecting

The anti-aliasing stuff didn't really do much for this game. But better than nothing.

I saw some pretty cool "ultra high" graphic mods for this game using something called ENB + ReShade. So I might just have to try that on another play through. I don't think I fix this games while trying to keep it somewhat "vanilla". May as well go full throttle haha.

What we just need is a good sharpener for dlss, that s all i ask for,cod warzone is kinda ok with the ingame sharpener at 100 with dlss, but games like cs go, which i play at 960p for gameplay reasons/ aim blablabla..looks like shite on my 1440p monitor, and nvidia sharpening is bad , it gives certain color degradation to textures when i apply it...

I use AMD CAS with reshade. If the game has the option, I turn off dlss' sharpening or edit the exe with a hex editor to disable sharpening and the inject CAS. This also works great with basic TAA smear. AMD CAS is the best sharpener out there.
