Ah, thanks a lot, that's helpful -- so I expect S-Sync "1" + Fast Sync at say 30 fps (S-Sync half refresh rate for example) will still microstutter/have that jitter occasionally then. Argh -- thanks RealNC, that's great to know!

Why not just do a manual FPS cap of 30 + Fast Sync then? Or is S-Sync "1" preferred to that? Thanks, sorry to spam you.

Not sure if it will stutter. I think it's probably gonna be fine at 1/2 even with a weak GPU.

Because s-sync will sync the cap to the refresh rate. A normal cap is unsynced and will drift, increasing the chance of stutter with fast sync.

I've been reading through this thread and the amount of info you guys have is very helpful .Thank you.
I have a question regarding how it is you guys know, specifically @RealNC

How did you even know that there was an option to add SyncFlush to the .cfg files? Is there robust documentation for RTSS that I'm unaware of?

These things are mentioned in the changelog. "ReadMe.pdf" in the Doc folder of the RTSS installation. Sometimes not in full detail, however. So if you don't follow RTSS releases, you probably want to search this forum for the stuff mentioned in the changelog.

I checked the ReadMe.pdf before posting which is what prompted me to comment here.
While the document does talk about scanline syncing and flushing, there is no mention of specifically adding SyncFlush=x to a game's profile .cfg. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How did you find out that that was the exact string to add to the .cfg? Like now, I only found out due to your excellent tutorial in this thread.
Did Unwinder mention the exact string needed back when scanline was released years ago and that's how you found out?

For example, Unwinder changed in 7.3.2.b2 how DX11 swapchain latching was previously enabled by default. The only way I found out what the actual string was, was by checking the ProfileTemplate for Flight Simulator 2020 as he mentions it in the changelog, and funnily enough, your thread about disabling swapchain latching in Metro Exodus in the previous beta release.

Is that how people have been finding the exact hidden strings to add to other game .cfgs? So there's no in-depth manual that I'm missing then, I just need to check around the forum or ask?

    Thanks.

EDIT: Also, I realise that I'm going off topic. Maybe I should have posted this in the RTSS thread.

The file "ProfileTemplates/Global" contains all the options and their default values. That's where you'll find SyncFlush=1 is the default, unless you set it to something else in a per-game profile.

Yeah, Unwinder talked about it in the Afterburner releases thread:

    https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/rtss-6-7-0-beta-1.412822/

The thread's name is misleading of course, but that's how it is. The best way to get information about that stuff is to follow that thread.

Perfect. I didn't even think to look in the Global template and already I've learnt about hybrid scanline from that thread you linked.
    Many thanks.
