Had opportunity to see RHCP in Kyiv's Euro2012 Olimpiyskiy Stadium. My wife got us free tickets for writing an article in her magazine, so I went as an Esteemed Member of the Press...LOL. My wife told me the concert was sold out, so we thought there would be 70-80k people there, but total people was far short for some reason. My wife speculated that companies bought up tickets to sell at twice the price.. Anyway, it was RHCP's first ever concert in Ukraine! They had Futbol club Dynamo's jerseys on at one point. I'll link some video's, the quality is not very good as I used my phone to record and I was a little buzzed (well, a lot buzzed)... A:6/V:4 lol... The newly built Stadium was pretty nice by Ukraine standards... This is a pic of the cover system, my wife told me it is mechanical and does "something" when it snows (Ukraine can get over 1m+ drifts). This looked to an elegant solution, I think I might go there after a heavy snow and try to see this system in operation. All I could surmise is that it lowers, and creates a ramp for the snow to drop in to the main field area of the stadium...where crews could remove it. Anyway here's a pic of it... The crowd during one of the opening bands iirc... RHCP in action... And here is link to 1 minute "By The Way" Link to Stadium pre-concert (still daylight)
I'm a big fan of the band, and especially John Frusciante. I thought they made their best music when he returned and was sad to see him go a second time. The latest album with Josh is solid, but hasn't blown me away like the previous few. Still, good to see them carry on. ....and besides, Frusciante's solo stuff is amazing.
now if they would just rerecord their latest albums b/c they are the most distorted i have ever heard.
Yep, they and many other bands have fallen victim to the "loudness wars". No room for dynamics. Run the tracks through a compressor/limiter, and do it again, and again.... edit - Btw, if you want distorted, listen to Audioslave's catalog. Better yet, load the tracks into a DAW and behold the complete lack of space and all the squashed peaks.
Very cool clip, but I was referring to his solo albums, with great stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeLdyrXv0FQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa5wtanzlyM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP0pFH_EiTo I'm an avid guitar player, and listen to (and play) some very technical music, but there's something about guys like Frusciante (and David Gilmour) that just grabs you by the heart with great feel and plaintive vocals. Year's gonna chime in with Neal Schon soon...and it's justified. OP - Sorry to derail. Glad you got to see an amazing show, and thanks for posting some cool pics.
