Also, moving the game doens't default the settings at all, since they are in Documents of the User folder.

It is an ambigous error code that could be any number of things.
I suspect RAM becausethe couple of times (last 20 years or so) i've had this error persist it has always ended up being RAM being pushed too far OC wise, or factory XMP settings not stable.

Whether too high speed, too tight timings or too low refresh cycles, backing off the OC in the RAM fixed the problem.
Just my 2c from my own personal experience. . .

Go to Documents > Rockstar Games > RDR2 > Settings folder > delete the system.XML file
    Start the game.

Yeah I've had problems as well with this, although I mod but have not put in any new ones for a few days and don't plan on more.

I set the page file to 16gb-25gb, pagefile on the external ssd this is installed on to 8-15gb. Commandline.txt hack from a while back using
-ignorepipelinecache -cpuLoadRebalancing, delete dx12 cache in users/local/nvidia/dx12, obviously clear out the mydocs vulkan stuff i leave the settings file alone. Um boy trying to remember all the tricks tried, I'm pretty sure changing any settings in graphics AT.ALL should be a game restart, it doesn't like changes to the settings file. RESTART the whole system before booting it up, after an unknown error fffff I usually unplug the whole drive and replug it in worked last night played for a couple hours no problems. I'll post anything else I can remember there's more I'm sure. Here's a still active thread about it, not by me fyi

I reinstalled all the visual c from the techpowerup mega installer, something else too maybe a directx mega installer from there as well. On 528 driver.

Installed latest vulkan too, I use vulkan it's more stable than dx12. This game really needed to have a dx11 option and thus dxvk could be used too.
