Im currently on the market for a voice communication for playing with friends, maybe in the future to do a clan/guild. In the past there were very few options, but now there are more, so just looking for some feedback from gamers what do you prefer. Atm i just want to decide which one work better for gaming (latency, price, reliability, easy to use and manage are the main factors).

    Ventrilo
    Teamspeak
    Mohawk
    Mumble

Not sure if its the correct forum section, probably the software is might be better, but im trying to get more feedback from real gamers, so i decided to post it here, if this is not acceptable i apologize, and feel free to move it to appropriate section.

I've used a number of voice communication options over the years and by far the best I've come across has to be Vent. It's pretty cheap to rent out a server if you decide to go down that route, or you can host the server yourself.

I've never come across latency issues and have had zero downtime on my current Vent server in over a year. Though the company you rent the server from plays more of a part in that than anything. This experience comes from using voice servers for everything from 10 - 60 people being able to enter a single channel at any one time (Though that admittedly is rare).

    I used Ventrilo and TeamSpeak.
From this 2, Vent is better - more clear vioce...

I prefer the Ventrilo interface over Teamspeak.

    I'm partial to Teamspeak.

    I recommend Teamspeak or Ventrilo.

I use Vent or Skype. Skype works well when it's a small private group. No one randomly dropping into your channel. Exactly how my group of friends like it when we play Starcraft II.

I used to despise Teamspeak but TS3 is fantastic. It's so much better than Ventrilo (IMO, everyone is different hehe).

Ventrilo if you are after a good quality small footprint client, TS3 is bloated imho.

+1 for Ventrilo. I've used most of them and keep coming back to vent.

My PR server uses both Mumble and TS. I'm partial to Mumble but the global spam can get annoying because u can't turn it off..

I like the interface over TS GUI, tho I may be using TS 2...idk...

+1. Teamspeak or Vent. However when I play with my other three friends from Russia (so we can make a squad in BC2) we use Skype conference call. Sound quality is perfect.

Just wondering about that global spam.... do you still get it with paid private severs? and whats it about? im still considering mumble, but this could steer me away.

Chatterboxes in other squads that use global chat so that the whole server can hear them, instead of using the in-squad comms...

I'm with GamingAU/ bigD servers and we now kick guys that use global too much.

The thing about mumble is you can talk to ANY player on the battlefield as long as he is within hearing distance of you. Plus it's directional as well, so it's more natural.

Really suited for for Realism FPS's like Project Reality and ARMA 2. The ingame voip is great but limits you to talk to ur own squadmates...

There's prob more social chat on my server than many others, as we are all from AU/NZ and most have been playing together for a very long time. Many guys have met irl as well, so it's easy to start talking BS with ur mates...
