    Hi guys.
    Recommend me a sound card.
I stereo analogue out with my xfi extreme music.
It does a fantastic job so long as you up sample to 24bit 48000Hz. @ 44100 weird things happen.
When I listen to benchmark audio like: Dark side of the moon. Its definitely better than my Denon.
Is my old card still up to the job or is it time to move on. :)
TY in advance you super furry buddies. :)

Do you really need new soundcard? What do you expect of it? Wouldn't it be wiser to invest into better headphones or stereo instead?

Get yourself a Creative ZXR, and upgrade all the replaceable opamps in it with LME49710HA metal can opamps on adapters like I did. You will be amazed with how good it sounds. It won't be cheap though.

I have just moved on from an Creative X-Fi Titanium to the newest and latest Creative SoundBlaster X AE-5 while using a 5.1 speaker system , the upgrade was necessary because for some odd reason my old X-Fi Titanium would not work anymore under the latest Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709. The new AE-5 indeed sounds better than my old X-Fi , but if i had a choice i would have stayed with my old X-Fi even if it sounded a little worst than the AE-5.

If you do have the itch to upgrade i can highly recommend you the Creative SoundBlaster X AE-5 , it is a worthy upgrade.

    Kind Regards: Chispy

My Zx definitely doesn't sound worse than my old X-fi Titanium and Forte.

i find it massively tinny compared to an xfi, no amount of eq makes it sound as good from personal experience

Well perceived audio quality is ofc subjective.

I for one find the soundscape of the SBZ to be even a bit warmer or softer compared to X-fi.

Btw are you connecting via analog or digital?

    Hi Guys.
Yes, I am analogue connected to my amp, source direct. I do not like the idea of digital because then I need another DAC of what quality??
But all opinions I'm interested in.
For my media center I'm still on w7/64 professional, service pack 1 only.
Music app of choice, is: Music Bee, currently set to wasapi for my xfi extreme music.
I guess its all bout the best DAC???
I actually have to set music bee to +3 pre amp for better base.
could insp1re powercolor devil hdx recommendation sort that??
    :)

What? 'Massively tinny'? I'm no audiophile, but when I was using my Zx, it didn't that way, in fact, it compares well even against my Forte and Asus Phoebus Solo. I know that when it comes to audio perception is subjective after all, but in way shape or form would I describe the Zx as 'tinny'.

At OP, why this insistence on soundcard? Why not an external DAC? I forgot to ask, what do you use for listening to music, headphones and/or speakers?

Did you install the speaker setup thingy by any chance? In my case it totally destroyed the sound when using headphones. It's not obviously meant for those.

Obviously turn off all craptalizers and SBX when not using virtual surround. The only reason why it would sound bad is misconfiguration.

As Chipsy said, the new Creative X AE-5 is where its at for internal sound cards.
    Thats it :)

... unless you want to go external.
    Thats a wholly different game.

And yes its all about the DAC quality and the circuit it is used in.

I agree, it's an really great sound card and it been doing an great job as an source for my jotunheim with my Bal JBL305's and R70Xs. I know this would be wishful thinking, I would love if creative made another verison with some Mini-XLR's, since I know normal size XLR wouldn't fit unless it was an external box.

Hi Guys, after much chewing on the fat. I've gone for the powercolor devil hdx.
I know its only 24bit but It really does look right for what I want. I have also orded a onkyo a-9010 amp to help it along.
I have a one month return window If the hdx does not please me..
TY guys, see you on the dark side of the moon. :)

Might be wrong, but I dont think there much consumer content that 24bit, all mostly 16bit.

Pros using 96bit for production and editing and “dumbing” it to 16bit for release.

For your work 24bit should be enough.

There is a lot of 24bit media.
As well as 192K/24 and 96K/24 there is 44.1K/24.
Whether you get any benefit depends on the quality of the DAC and the rest of the system.

London Grammar releases her albums in 44.1K/24
    Enya 96K/24
    Muse 96K/24
    Floyd loads of res'
    ...

    One site that sells them
    http://www.hdtracks.co.uk/
    Lots more online.

Yeah for music there more variation in bit depth and bit rate. Missed the part it's mainly for music.

Hi Guys, so I put the card in and yeah, Hilberts review is bob on.
No PCI-E noise, interference, Which comes across as stunning and the card is as Hilbert says a little bass shy? But its a different type of bass, tighter, crisper, clearer, like you just made the switch to fibreglass cones and you don't like it. This was the result with my Denon and I switched to the Onkyo 9010 which sort of fixed that being warmer and having much better middle sound.
True 24 bit audio sounds amazing but when you switch back and play WAV lossless CD 16 bit rip it feels like you just died. It takes some time to climatise back16 bit again and then all is well with the world again.
Sad: for the likes of led-zep 3, remastered, it just poo.
But you will piss your pants when playing the best rap album in the world ever.
