    Hi everybody,

    I'm looking to upgrade my pc and it seems like i'm getting a i7 860 cpu. i need a motherboard for it, and would appreciate any feedback you can give me as I've been out of the game for a long time and don't even know what socket i should look for.

    I don't want something super fancy, what i care about is for it to be cheap, expandable in terms of memory for the future (as in i can go above 4 gigs), i need it to have a ATA connector as i have a drive and a dvd drive i'd rather not upgrade, i don't really care for SLI/Crossfire as I'm 99% sure i wont ever be using that, over clocking is an option but not critical i don't really have time for tweaking.

    If you could point me to some ram that i can pair this with it would be even better :-D

    Thanks.

    You will need a SKT LGA 1156 mobo and also new DDR3 ram to run that CPU.

    1333 DDR3 is about £50 for 2GB or £60 ish for 3GB (3x1GB for triple chan if the mobo supports it)

    As for the mobo, about £70 for a cheap but decent one

    Thanks for the input guys.

    @killerxr290: isn't the 860 a dual channel memory processor not a triple?

    @Jae-So: I'm in new york at the moment, so i'm taking advantage of it and shopping around :)

    Have to agree Gigabyte and G.Skill all the way, cheap and very good performers!

    Either Asus P7P55D or P7P55D Deluxe will be fine.

    Triple channel is socket 1366 and not socket 1156.

    ASUS mobos are very expensive compaired to Gigabyte and yet performance wise is negligible!

    Well, the Asus P7P55D is actually 30 € cheaper than the GigaByte GA-P55A-UD3 on www.salland.eu right now but that's because they have a discount. Without the discount their prices are the same so I guess it depends on where you live.
