if i put application controlled will it turn off af

  2. nah it wont, try putting both aa and af to application controlled and your fps will go up, its because the GPUs dont have to read both settings the ingame and nvidia control panel it just reads the ingame trust me you wont loose any quality at all it will still look good at 4x AA and 16x AF

  3. ok gotta go to workys hope this all helps..

    All the best.

Did you end up fixing the problem? I am having the exact same troubles. I have a good 3dMark score 7816, but horrible FPS in BF2 and less than expected for other games.

not saying this is the only fix or way to go, but here is what I did..

tested most of the 81.xx series and got 15/20 fps in Special Forces after the patch

so I used Nasty File Remover and installed the 77.72 WHQL drivers with the 6800 Ultra

    Here are the results

    1024x768 HIGH 2xAA

Colors are no longer dull and washed out and more vibrant..

    example of the 81.95 drivers

no floating shadow bug either, game ran very smooth with no stutter or lag from my system

unlike the other drivers, in which if I tried to fly anything it would be very laggy and such

    specs in sig..

Whoa that looks good, but I noticed each shot was isolated and doesn't tell the whole story. What kind of combat FPS are you getting?:)

Hmmm, I shall try that. Did you tweak the settings or create your own Nvidia profile? That sounds about as good as my old 6800GT overclocked. I'll try that out in about 30 minutes, I am going to reinstall windows and format to clean all several dozen of these utilities off my PC that I've been using to try and fix this problem.

Already turned that off. 77.72 drivers won't install now, says the device is incompatible

Have you tried 81.95's? They must be some of the best drivers I've had yet. Haven't had 1 fault so far.

Make sure your setting in your control panels are set to Application, now go try it, just use BF2 to put AA on set everything to high and your good to go, if you have AA and AF enabled it causes a confliction between the driver and API in BF2.

I already set it to application controlled in the last attempt.:frown: I'll see if cleaning the windows install will help at all.

Great! Now I don't have a chance to test it since BF2's account server is F'ed.

Try to play around with sound settings. BF2 is unplayabe for me at even medium settings because of 512MB.

One thing that noone has mentioned yet, delete everything in the BF2 cache folder. Go to,

    C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

and delete everything in the cache folder. That is the folder that holds all the optomizations from the first time the game runs. It also adds a new folder there everytime you change any settings in game, or anything else that causes the game to re-optimuze when it is started.

Oh and for you guys that are running onboard sound, make sure that it is set to software not hardware.
