Doesnt look very impressive. To me it wasnt much better in the unigame benchmark than the 5870, was I right in seeing 42fps running with fraps?

If so thats bad news, i expected something around 70fps. That to me would be an acceptable improvement over a 5870. Still again nothing clear cut yet, unigame doesnt reflect game perf which I think most of us are really intererested in.

If i was being harsh I would say nvidia isnt showing us much while trying to keep us enticed.

Interestingly, semiaccurate (Charlie's homeground, not usually NV friendly) also talks about some GTX 470 benches from Germany and even though they are trying hard to make it sound bad, they are actually quite good:
    http://semiaccurate.com/2010/03/04/gtx-470-pcb-gets-nekkid-put-through-thrashing/

This means the 470 may already be quite close to the 5870 in some occasions. Provided the 480 details floating around are accurate, there seems to be a good chance for its big brother 480 to be quite a bit faster than the 5870. I'm still not fully buying into it, but the first signs are promising!

let's don't start suck each others d.i.c.k.s. wright now. I made this thread just for the sake of saying that sometimes (if not alwayz:wanker:) rumors may be true. Back to topics now: I would like to see GTX 480 how well it handels in games in comaprison with 5870. If we have to belive what was sad before it looks like the max 10% more performance will be also true, but we will see. It looks in the end that 5970 will very trash GTX 480.:biggun:

This one clearly shows that is an nvidia's work. Until we see some real "real benchmarks" from sites like Guru3D, we can't be sure.

we certainly need to see some actual game benchies here to determine how much faster the 480 is compared to 5870 - but come on, it HAS to be faster than the 5870 otherwise NV is dead.

Then they've taken all this time, it's been what? over 6 months since 5 series hit the shelves so NV has had plenty of time to make their product faster. It's inevitable.

However, the 480 in my eyes will only really be worthwhile if it can beat the 5970. The 470 looks like a promising product, around the performance of a 5850 - sometimes touching 5870 performance.

I wonder if these things will overclock though? coz the 5 series OC like mad.

    No fanboyism here. Just opinion.
I'n not too impressed by the results. In some sections of the test, the 5870 matches/marginally beats the GTX480. Yes, while the 480 is more consistent through the benchmark, the 5870 is just a mere 10FPS behind. Given a little OC and the 5870 can probably equal the 480.

exactly, I'm not overly impressed either. The 480 has been hyped and hyped for so long, it should completely smash the 5870 really. due to the thermal issues they have had, i doubt they'll oc so well short of putting them under water/ln2.

the 480gtx at 1000Mhz+ core is what NV needs, can't see it happening though.

an overclocked 5850/5870 should be easily on par with it going from that benchmark. Lets see what fermi has to offer in real games that aren't optimised for NV.

    I expected more, much more.

Sorry I haven't really been following this, but is the 480GTX supposed to be the high end card? How does that compare to the 5970 I wonder?

the 480GTX is the flagship card. We don't really know how it will compare to a 5970, but from what we've seen its only slightly ahead of the 5870.

My theories was so close to the real results :)
This year is really bad for nvidia since availability for the GTX480 sucks.

Mmm... Much better min framerate. At the end of the benchmark is something like 25 fps for the HD5870 and 50 fps for the GTX480. 100% more. In the middle of the chart, the same situation. 30 fps for the HD5870 and like 58 fps for the GTX480. I dont think that a OCed HD5870 could give such results.

It has a 8pin + 6pin connectors. Thats 300w of power counting the mobo (225w+75w). Very power hungry.

you pay 250 $ extra to get 10 fps more in tessalation rendering? wow nice work nvidia real innovation there
oh and right now Dirt 2 and AVP use tessalation to render crowds and make characters smooth, real good use of that....

practical scenario? 5 or 10 FPS more than hd 5870 in tessalation cases, no real performance improvement over the ladder in DX 10 , that is not worth 250$ extra!!!plus 600 W PSU

Well its 50%+ faster in heavy tessellated parts of the benchmark. And around 5970 in DX10 FC2 bench. Pretty good so far. Now lets see, can it run Crysis.

i think you're a bit out with your figures there. i cant provide any proof atm as i took off the unigame benchmark but perhaps another guru can confirm the 5870 fps. i think i scored around 50 fps @1920x1200.

Hmm, what is more attractive. A 5870 for <€350 or a GTX480 for almost twice the money?!

This doens't look too good... The only things I'm excited about are PhysX and 1.5GB of VRAM, but this really won't justify €600 (IF that is going to be the price of course)
