    Hi
I have just purchased online another 2gb stick to add to what is already in my pc.
The ram is the same brand and speed but on opening I noticed the timing is CL6 compared to the CL5 which I already have installed.
Is this going to be a problem, will there be any noticeable difference in speed?
Is it worth sending back for a correct replacement or should I just install it anyway as I 'll never notice the difference?
    Many thanks for any advice.

you wont notice any difference at all, overall your ram will only run as fast as your slowest stick so nothing really to loose. Not worth the hassle of sending it back. You could if you wanted to oc your CL6 to the same timings as your CL5 but again, the gain would not be hugely noticeable

just try the cl5 timing and see if it works, it will more than likely tbh

How would I change the timings in the BIOS to CL5?
Is there a quick and easy way? Can't be bothered fiddling.

i have 3x1gb 800mhz 8,8,8,20 and 3x1gb 1066 9,9,9,24 all overclocked to 1600mhz @7,7,7,19 1.65v. works perfectly so just try it, you may need to up the voltage a little.

There's only one way, at least one "safe" way, through the BIOS.
I wouldn't bother fiddling around with software as, well I don't know they just tend to cause problems.

Personally I see a difference between CL4 and CL5 for DDR2-800, I noticed the system was snappier.

My RAM is set to CL4-4-4-12-16 @ 800 MHz.

What do I need to change in the BIOS?
There's options to change the DDR2 timings. I think these are the main ones.

    Cas latency 3T-7T
RAS to CAS R/W delay 3T-6T
    Row precharge time 3T-6T
    Minimum RAS active time 5T-18T

It's all set to Auto for now.

go to the bios, with just your CL5 ram in, and write down the settings, then put both sticks in, and change the settings to what you have written down. Make sure thats done for both sticks.

    that should do it

But as said, it will work fine if you just leave it without changing anything

Don't tweak the RAM setting if you don't know what you're doing. It may cause system instability.

No I'm not going to bother tweaking.
Have just sent the ram back and bought from elsewhere. Hopefully this time they send me the right kind.
