Look like AMD can face a Nvidia GTX 970 Lawsuit for false advertising, because AMD Free Sync not working in all games in Full Screen mode like it should.

As you know, Free Sync should work in all Direct X 9,10,11 & 12 games in Full Screen & Borderless Window Mode but as a late, some games don't work on Free Sync in Full Screen mode & some games don't have Borderless Mode but going back to the 16.11.5 driver Freesync works again in that game.

They'll have to wait in line behind all the Nvidia customers that still want their Async compute.

For the first time since 16.7.2 with Windows Creator Update and 17.4.3 I now don't have the UVD bug anymore. I was finally able to switch back to my original bios (I had a custom to by-pass the bug). My 7950 now idles at 300/150 like it's supposed to and not at 501/1250 (UVD state 1), and while gaming I have my overclocked frequencies and I'm not stuck at 900/1250 (UVD state 2)

Overclocking does not work on 390.
Also tried MSI Afterburner and Sapphire TriXX

Dude, OC with AB working for me on Asus R9 390 & this driver...

Other bugs & game breaks have sent me back to 17.3.1...

Can re-install & provide screens if you need confirmation (visual)...

17.4.3 is without doubt a broken driver for the 390 series, for various proven reasons... Of that I think we can all agree !!!

    Peace bro

FYI: My OS is Creators update (updated to -138)...

I believe what you are saying, but for me MSI AB just reset when I try to apply OC settings. Running creators update too.

Is there a reason to choose 17.3.1 over 17.2.1 WHQL?

Bro, both 17.2.1 & 17.3.1 work absolutely fine for me. The deciding factor was an average 7 fps better perf in games globally running 17.3.1.

Also running 17.3.1, some app profiles do not save (ROTTR, Witcher3, Far Cry Primal, The Division), other than that though driver & perf is golden & stable (wattman)...

In 17.2.1 the app profile issue is not present but perf is down globally when compared to 17.3.1...

17.3.1 out performs all 17.4.x releases for my R9 390 on a global gaming basis, without even touching on the 17.4.x game breaking bugs...

These are the reasons why for me 17.3.1 is the 'Golden Child' right now ;)

    Stay Breezy n be Lucky...

    Peace...

Old 390 (rebadged 290) ?New 480 (original for 580 rebadge)?

My old 290x OCed can still beat your now not so new 480 (try to OC that... :D )

Don't bark so high, wait until Vega is out.

By then your brand new GPU will be 2 gens old because there is already a "new" 5x0 line out!

For AMD it doesn't matter 5x0 are nothing more than a rebadge a flash away from a "magic" upgrade:

    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=413986

AMD can still play the new series only driver trick with 5x0 line to make it look more powerful than 4x0 line in launch reviews like they did with 3x0 series launch.

Probably to counteract performance decreases caused by the update, older drivers work fine, but i did notice a decrease in performance on my test rig with 1703(15063) compared to 1607(14393) on my older card

I actually had seated my card improperly. I reseated and everything working as it should. I was getting low fps with bayoneta and sleeping dogs, no problems now.

so this thing about not being able to overclock 390.

my card shows in testing that its my card power starved on its stock settings.

when stressing the card sometimes the gpu clock wont go above 900mhz.

using afterburner and increasing power by 21%, the clock went full speed and gives almost 15+ increase in fps.....and of course increase in temp...

For me it wasn't an "encounter" thing. I mean without a custom bios I literally never could idle at 300/150, always at 501/1250, and in every game I had 900/1250 all the times and could never reach my OC frequencies. With every driver after 16.7.2 and now I can do both things
