Hmm that makes sense, haven't seen the specs for the Mac Book (Been a lot of discussion recently of what it doesn't have though heh.) but a 470 or maybe the full 480 would probably work without AMD doing a different chip design specifically for that system.

Might have added some additional refresh rates too: (Up to 100hz for 3840x2160, still not full 144 for those using such a display or 120 but still a improvement if it was 60 before.)
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5803l0/new_driver_added_3840x2160_100hz_to_the_vsr_list/

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/53za2z/apparently_amd_has_silently_increased_vsr/

(Added from one of the 16.9.x driver it seems going by when it was first reported.)

Not really sure how the whole hardware side of this with VSR works (Scalar or what it was.) but there are updates for the Polaris GPU chip so supporting a higher resolution probably would be achievable unless it turns out it's just some adjustment entirely in the driver software as some have suspect since back when VSR could be modified a bit more easily even for older GPU models.

EDIT: Reading the Reddit thread well for Fury and older GPU's AMD doesn't officially list 3840x2160 or 3840x2400 as available for a monitor using 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 (Instead it's 3200x1800 and 3200x2000 I believe.) but it is available or at least I can select 3840x2160 although GPU scaling has to be off in Crimson first (But the monitor already does scaling and can be customized a bit more so that's just a benefit.)

(Still not a full 2.00x which would be 5120x2800 / 5120x3200 depending on if it's 16:9 2560x1440 or 16:10 2560x1600 and still no VSR support for ultra-wide 21:9 resolutions from what I've read.)

(But 1.5x is still better than 1.25x and well "4K" as it's commonly called even if it's not a full 4096x resolution is certainly demanding enough particularly for newer games. :D )
(EDIT: Yeah it seems the "true" res would be 4096x2160)

Confirming that Idle bug still not fixed for GCN 1.0 users. I guess AMD will do one final release for December and fix this crap and say: on your way! It's been 2-3 months at least that this bug is present, we reported it, talk about it, but they don't care.

    *
I just enabled secondary display through DVI and and left it for few minutes, disable it, and the clock of 450/1200MHz stays forever. It's really easy to trigger this bug it's kind of ridiculous.

Does anybody know if the Windows 10 64 bit crash/freeze on reboot/full shutdown bug is finally fixed in this driver with Radeon 7970Ms (and other mobile cards) on Alienware and other laptops or do we still have to use 16.7.2 which was the last driver this hasn't happened with?

I found a trick try this:

(Dont install amd dipsplay as package with amd installer)

    1. uninstall amd and all leftover then shutdown
    2. use ccleaner to clean amd left over
    3. install amd display thru device manager after installation dont forget to shutdown. just google it on how to install display adapter thru device manager
    4. you can finally install amd install manager and all items just check the box whatever you want in amd install manager when finish shutdown

Im also having problem before all amd updates that I install it encounter problem like freeze etc. before after in unistall old amd updates I install amd display with amd installer as package... I found a trick to seperate amd display adapter thru device manager then shutdown after that you can install amd installer without freeze problem etc....

These last couple of drivers have been a bit weird with the shader cache setting.

Tested it now again with the recent update to it via this driver but it still caches stuff you'd expect to be blacklisted such as Windows processes and even Radeon Settings itself.
(Obviously setting it to the non-supported setting of "on" globally would cache everything but "AMD Supported" should only be for valid and supported software no?)

Pretty easy to test by just setting it to AMD Optimized and logging off and on again (Restarting the AMD services and Radeon Settings software.) and then in "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\AMD\DXCache" there should now be a couple of cache files.

Trying to delete these (Or move them.) should give the usual Windows "file in use" message and the name of the program that is currently holding the file which as I said Radeon Settings itself is likely to be one of them along with Explorer.exe and some other Windows processes. (Generally smaller files at around 64 kb each, larger caches are usually for the actual games it's caching.)

Also of interest is that even back when this setting was first introduced installing new drivers or uninstalling the old ones would delete the DXCache folder entirely though it'll leave the older GLCache folder alone (Can't disable caching of OpenGL shader data.) which I'm not sure if it's a error or for compatibility by clearing out old caches. (Even if you don't uninstall the current driver and do a in-place upgrade install it'll delete this folder in that process.)

Not exactly sure if there's any actual problems with caching of Windows services and other program software though, noticed the "Windows Shell Experience Host" app (That's the start menu core or what to call it.) tends to be a bit crash prone but it's usually pretty sensitive anyway as can be seen by numerous reports of it being unstable or the start menu not working correctly through the initial release of Windows 10 to the TH1 update and now the RS1 update as well.
(Also noticed that when signing off sometimes it takes a while during which you'll stare at a black screen until the login screen displays which usually indicates explorer.exe crashed at some point and it was generating a memory dump of that and sometimes the syskernel32 file or what it was called, haven't seen that before either since this driver but if it's the shader cache or just something with the driver itself I can't say for sure, or even a Win10 problem or possible a problem with one of the recent cumulative updates for the OS.)

Just some observations, driver itself is working well enough when gaming without any errors so far. (Haven't actually gone to try Battlefield One though, that might be a bit problematic going by recent reports of Catalyst 16.11.x and that game.)

For now I've switched the shader cache off again and if I notice any problems well at least it's either the driver itself or just Win10 being well, Win10 I guess. :D
(The anniversary update as it's called or RedStone 1 wasn't exactly a smooth launch though the newest cumulative update and dynamic install update seems to have solved much of the reported problems with it.)

So far so good on my side with this one :)

The DX11 Render Stack error in Mad Max is Fixed.
This one is Fastest for my config.
    Mantle Working NP also.
Forza 3 Horizon Demo working good on High settings (1920:1440, Dynamic ON and set to High, no Blurrrr)

    UPD.1
Checked Vulcan in DOOM, also working OK shows ver. 1.0.26

    UPD.2
BF4 Mantle in MP working Great.

IMO this driver manages to Fix many early Stage WDDM 2.1 Problems that ATI GPUs have from a Driver point of view :)
Can't wait to see what another 16.11.xx bring us.

Does anyone knows which games had problems with the shader cache size?

As per the release announcement it's the two Call of Duty games Modern Warfare Remastered and Infinity Warfare.

I only tested MW:R briefly and the cache file grew to 131 MB after playing through the first two levels of the game. :D
(Think it capped out at 64 MB earlier, could have been 128 though and I also thought it doubled in size every time it expanded so from 128MB to 256MB but I guess it's a bit more dynamic?)

EDIT: Probably it has separate shaders for each level thus the file size as AMD / Nvidia caches all of them and it builds up after only a few levels.
(Infinite Warfare does a single - looong. - cache of it's own when the game is first started but I don't know how big that would be if cached via AMD or Nvidia's drivers.)

No more big titles this month...next month is the new shade of red hype? :D

Installed 16.11.2, updated, rebooted, works. Games play. Win. Just wish multimonitor didn't cause full memory speed, because earlier Crimsons did not do that and ran at 300/150. (Monitors are identical) Started ramping up 11.9.x

Finally, today's update fixed D3D9 device enumeration issues! (which causes some games to crash to desktop). This should confirm it was nod a driver issue at all, and NVIDIA users should also be able to play those games as well.
