Yep, when NCIX had there sale on right when the 4850's were released, there was one on there for $165cad after mir. It came with the "Black Box", and iirc that was the one that also came with another game, a good one, I just can't remember it at the moment. THAT......that was tempting! ;)

I honestly haven't been this excited about owning a video card since the Geforce 3.

    I have.. I think.

    3.6ghz Q6600, 400FSB, 1200Mhz RAM. HD 4870 stock speeds.

Same settings with a HD4870 + HD4850 at stock speeds.

It scales poorly. Nothing new with ATi and Crysis I guess...

thanks mate will it run in dx10 veryhigh @same resolution,

imhoping that 4870CF will run it at 1920x1080, veryhigh, 16xAF (not to bothered about AA or motion blur so u can turn them off if like)

For those who have gone from G80/92 to the 4870, hows the IQ compared to your last card?

I have HD4870 right now and i say IQ is better than G80(8800GTS). hard to exacly describe what is better.. but for my eyes at least picture is more corolfull and more precise ( maybe it is a bad word for what i think :p )

I had a G92 8800GT and I think (and always have) that the IQ on ATI cards is better...coolers seem sharper and clearer.

Don't count on it, unless you get a 1024mb HD4870. I myself will be going for the 4870 X2 if it has the rumoured 2GB ( one gig per core ).

Running Crysis on Very High at 1920x1200 was playable on a single HD4870, with a mild overclock, but at points it simply suffers from memory limitation, so you can just throw that 16x AF out the window. Very playable at 1680x1050, but still suffers from memory limitation, with no AA or AF.

Guru3D didn't play crysis at very high on a single card. They also didn't use GRID with 8x AA at 1920x1200. They also didn't use Oblivion with any mods with AA. I base my opinion on real experiences, and having had a 2900Pro 1024mb I can see the big difference that the extra 512mb made in games at settings I like to play at. This card, in the end, is incredibly restricted by it's small VRAM size, and you can bet that it'll really start to show in the future when newer games are released. 1024mb should be the standard for high end cards now.

You also don't get things like choppyness or VRAM uasge mentioned in any benchmarks, so you can't really judge the reviews simply by average frame rate.

Yep, back to the red team for me. Just ordered 2 x Visiontek 4870s from tigerdirect. GTX 280 being relegated to the secondary machine after MB change. I will post some benchmarks when it is all set up.

Do you even need 8x AA with 1920 X 1200? I think 4x is more than enought at that res. Also 512MB of GDDR5 = 1GB of GDDR3.

I think at guru3d benchmark they mention that GRID has some bug with ATI cards at highest res. 25X16

hi mate thanks for the input, so do u have crysis and play with all ingame setting at veryhigh + 1920x1200, if this is true could u please run the benchmark for me, as for the gfx cards i plan on buying either the 4870CF or 4870X2 card/cards depending of which is faster in gameplay, i have holded off buying for some time and i cant see any problems with waiting till the end of the month lol

so if u could run me crysis @ 1920x1200 + veryhigh (no config edits) i would really be greatful and if u have the time maybe run it with same settings as just mentioned but with the BLUR forces off via the config files ??
