like said above the gtx460 is a last gen card and is cheap because they are killing it off so this is most likely remaining stock of it. the 6790 destroys the card it goes up against so that is what you should look at. and last i checked this should be slower than a 6850. the 6850 is in a higher bracket.

From the sounds of things...the GTX460 isn't necessarily being "killed off"....more like being renamed to GTX560 (non-Ti model).

Both this and the 550 are pointless cards in anything other than from a marketing point of view, they are just aimed at people who want a card with a larger number.

Checking US prices on newegg, for the same price or a little more, you can get the faster GTX460 or 6850, and these cards are only going to get cheaper.

As sykozis said, these are aimed at those who don't know any better and think they are getting a next gen card.

Has someone flashed 6790 with a 6870 bios?? A crossfire setup at a low price would be very convenient to me.

I Agree this looks like a 4890 basicly in speed wise, but with DX11 support which this card wont be able to do properly because its too slow.

How do you figure? In 3DMark11 it out-scores the GTS450, GTX550Ti and GTX460SE...all of which handle DX11 just fine....it's also only 13pts below the GTX460 1GB in 3DMark11... Also hangs right with the GTX460 and GTX465 in Metro 2033 in DX11....only loses to the GTX470 by 4fps....and that's at 1920x1200... It even managed 50fps in Dirt 2 in DX11 at 1920x1200....so, I'd say you're wrong about it's performance.

Never said it was much, if at all worse than those cards, i know from experience how much a 460 struggled with DX11, even when overclocked to over 900mhz.

Just that to me it seems like the 5830 with a new name, performance is very very similar, so not sure what this has to offer that older existing cards don't, and the 5830 is only £85 here in the UK.
6790's are £115, which is what some 5850's are now, GTX460's are £120.

Never said it was a bad card, just an unnecessary card.

Saying that, if this scales as well as the rest of the 6k cards, two of them in CF might make them look more attractive.

I fixed my previous post for you.

Their ability to run DX11 seems to depend on what game you're playing. In Metro 2033, they appear to struggle....whereas in Dirt 2, they seem to perform on par with the GTX460 1GB, though not at the framerates we're all so used to seeing. If my board supported more than just x4 Crossfire, I'd be tempted to pickup a pair of these....but, x4 Crossfire is rather pointless.

Everything struggles with Metro2033, even with the 570, that game is still on my list of games to finish when i have the hardware to make them playable.

And i still stand by my opinion that while a better card than the 550ti, i still don't like it when you can get a card like the 5830 which has similar performance for less money, or a 460 which has better performance for roughly the same money.

But, you know there's always the fanboy that will stand by the card regardless...just like those that stand by the GTS450 and GTX550Ti....neither of which are worth buying unless you're upgrading from a GT220 or lower (just my opinion)...

Honestly, I think cards like the GTS450 and lower...are the real reason game devs aren't jumping on DX11, especially after seeing the disaster that was early DX10 cards (GF8800 series excluded).... Mid-range cards that couldn't hope to run DX10 but were branded as compatible anyway...while being slower than the previous gen DX9 cards they replaced.

Well that is true, can't say i like seeing cards that seem to look like something from the GT200 or HD4000 series either, with nothing more than underpowered DX11 support tacked on.

But there is a huge market for low end GPU's, and people would probably have a fit if you released a non DX11 card now.

anything lower then a 6850 seems like a wast of cash to me. Was out playing around on Hardware Compare http://www.hwcompare.com/

fun site if you have some time to wast. Based on the results here and reviews I have read I have to agree with Redemption80, it seems like a good marketing scheme!
