And here ATi fanboys have always claimed that ATi would never rebrand any card, as it innovates with every generation. Wee ~

It was not ATI/AMD who did this, it was Sapphire :p

But ATI has also renamed same stuff, we know that.

yeah if you actually read it you'd see this is about Sapphire.

I've also never heard that claim, AMD have renamed stuff before.

I am pretty sure Sapphire couldn't do that without ATI/AMD's permission or atleast their note. ATI/AMD can if it wants to, stop any AIB partner from re-branding its cards for sure. Not objecting alone shows ATI/AMD is supportive of it

    Your point is what exactly.

We're to heap the blame on amd for not stopping them? Even tho we've established they don't have a problem with renaming.

    OP is about sapphire.

It's happend all the time in OEM market... we are not speaking about rename the 8800GTX > wathever.... and sell it as a new cards...

here's the name choose by this Russian OEM "K-system": HD6510-HD6390, the day you find an HD 6510 in the listing of AMD, call me... )

Here's the first article about it where tpu have take his info:
    http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/20830-amd-rebrands-hd-5000-parts-for-eastern-europe

And here's the original article.. from Geek3D, where Fudzilla have take the infos: http://www.geeks3d.com/forums/index.php/topic,1769.0.html ¨

Edit: Original article updated todays by Geeks3D team.

    Update (2010.11.12)
This news seems to be a hot topic over the web and many websites have relayed it telling that Sapphire is rebranding HD 5550 to HD 6390. I wish to clarify this point: I never wrote that Sapphire is rebranding HD 5550. I received the pictures of a Sapphire HD 5550 detected as a HD 6390 by GPU Caps Viewer 1.9.4. That’s all.

What’s more, here is the official position of the Sapphire Russian team:

It is standard practice in the industry to have special products that vary from the products on offer in retail for system integration to meet those needs. But Sapphire has not sold any product into the Russian market for the current generation products (i.e. any 5K series rebranded to 6K series). Sapphire take their quality and the care of their products and very seriously. Our own investigation shows that there are no Sapphire products in current K-Systems computers, neither rebranded nor regular. Russian AMD representative and K-System
    representative confirmed this.

This is a nice example of news distortion (and domino effect…).
