Hey people, Just did a new important discovery with the 7900XTX. If you disable "Radeon Chill" in the Adrenalin control panel (driver 23.1.2) your fps will skyrocket. Just saw the difference in GTA 5, went from 75-100 fps to 133-144 fps. You're welcome. This to me is obviously a bug.
It's not a bug but it is how Radeon Chill works in order to keep it cooler it drops power and limits frame rate it also drops core/mem clock speeds when your not moving and ramping them back up as soon as you do move
Some people might not get that it lowers performance, because from the looks of it it looked like an FPS limiter. People might wonder why their performance sucks. I didn't fully understand the meaning of Radeon Chill until now.
Read the description of thing you are using before you assume you think it is not working correctly; otherwise known as RTFM. Literally just reading the tooltip like Rambo posted would have averted this entire thread.
Well, there's a reason it also comes with a minimum range. Since FRTC was removed, Chill can act closer to a plain frame limiter if you set the same value for its min/max fps.
Nvm, it's showing on Global Graphics settings (22.11.2, Polaris). It's just not available per game game profile as Chill is.
that happens when the gpu is under heavy throtteling due temperature or power limit, in that case chill may help to increase performance.
Well, AMD avoids blunt, but clear feature descriptions like "messes up your performance, unless you're moving the mouse".
From my understanding framerate target control is buggy mess so radeon chill is used instead usually altho im not sure if it works as well as it used to.
Chill did work for me in Deus Ex: Human Revolution that i am playing thru again but ive seen a lot of older games where it stops working sometimes. Interestingly it knows when cutscene plays in DXHR and turns off during that so i get like massive fps jump and then it goes down again after when you play.
