radeon indeed does support anisotropic filtering, but it cannot FORCE it on, the game must support it. And all the games that support anistropic filtration can be counted using 1 digit
geforce can force application to use anisotropic method instead of bilinear/trilinear, so basically any game that supports bilinear filtration can be run using anisotropic filtration instead on any geforce card. And almost all 3d games support bilinear filtration.

Yeah. Get me an image of 128-tap anisotophy with a Radeon and max Anisotrophy of your GeForce. I'm assuming that you have both cards since you asked me if you could make a screenshot of both with max ansiotrophy. Thanks.

Just realized that you only have Radeon. Maybe Lucky could give me a screenshot of his GeForce...?

  5. Should I buy the radeon 64 mb ddr now, or should i wait for the geforce 3 price to rop, or should i wait for radeon 2?

In full accordance with my thoughts, the Radeon is liquidated in Q3 benchmark as shown here: http://anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1435&p=10
Now, I can get my Pro to do those Ultra numbers, everything enabled. At the least, I'd advise you to get the Kyro II if you *really* need antialiasing.

    For max *what*?...It's antrisopic filtering.

Depends on what your system is all about.
Geforce3 cards are quite good but very few games take advantage of what the card offers at the moment. Speed, graphics and text are much improved over other cards but the price is a bit high and there are some incompatability problems here and there.
ATI has good graphics for games and text and the speed is good. The cost is about half ($200 vs $400) for an ATI 64mb ddr card compared to the geforce3.
All in all the card should be a fair match to the rest of your system. Try putting a Ferrari engine in a Ford Escort (my car) and lots of horse but the rest of the car can't keep up and overall the entire system fails the test.
Is your system up to a quality video card?
9. Of course it is. pentium 3 733mhz, 128mb ram, some other weird crap and a shitty tnt that can't run any games smoothly except for wolfenstein 3d.

  11. Yes, but good old Wolfenstein is much better. And the sequel is coming out soon.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents about the radeon/geforce thing. I had a geforce 2 mx400 64 meg card and recently replaced it with the radeon 64meg ddr. compared with the geforce2mx, the radeon kills it hands down. I have been pleased with the card so far and after reading all the replies, I ran 3dmark2001. It scored 3100+ and was right behind the geforce ultra and a bit farther behind the geforce3 but came in 3rd. Anyways, just wanted to throw that out there.
awe crap I have a VisionTek GF3, a Hercules 4500 64, 2 Radeon 64DDRs, a GF2 GTS 64, a GF2 Ultra 64 and even a GF2 MX 64 and out of all those cards the Radeon not only looks the best, but the one that I modded with a copper heatsink and larger fan runs OCed at 250/250 and is only about 2 to 6 fps slower than the GF3/12.90drvs in an AMD 1.2ghz T-Bird, A7V133, 768 pc133 cas2 Crucial Machine. So you can post about all the various benchmarks on the web that are there just to sell video cards to the fools that believe them. Because entill you have seen all the cards benchmarked in the same machine, done all by yourself. You haven't seen anything and don't know jack.
That is true...the unfortunate part is people don't have enough money to buy every single card out there to test what is best on their system. That is why we look at reviews and people who write up "shoot-outs" of different brands and levels of Video cards to decide what would be good on their system.

I finally took two hours to download 3DMark2001 (already had 2000.) On my CPU bound system I was able to tweak out a 3873 in 16 bit. This was with the Radeon 64MB DDR at 236 MHz, no special cooling. This is the fastest sub-GHz processor score I found for it at 1024x768. Stock it runs 3454 in my system.

Athlon 800 @ 6.5x145= 942 MHz
Shouldn't have much trouble breaking 4000 with a 1.2 GHz CPU.
