Hey guys, so, I've read on the Frontier forums that "[...] people on the Guru3D forums have modified the INF files for the drivers to install certain ones that aren't usually allowed". Now, I wanted to ask, if there's any way to install the 15.6b drivers (for Win10 64bit if possible) for my R9 390X card in some way? I do know as well that a low amount of players (3-5) have reported that the 64bit client of Horizons is fixing this for them without the need of older drivers. Still, I'd really like to play this game again before I am able to buy Horizons (I currently don't have money available) //EDIT: I have tried the 15.6 DLL files already, but the game doesn't even show some screen... Do I need to (somehow) install the WDM 1.3 and get rid of the Windows 10 2.0 one? ~ Greets.
While this isn't an answer to your question as such, there has been some good news on the supercruise problem in the David Braben AMA that went on earlier today. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/3wx239/david_braben_ask_me_anything/cxzkurm So next set of drivers due for release or at least in the metioned branch we'll hopefully see a fix (I too hate the supercruise bug, affects my card pretty badly)
@Lordmau5, I've read somewhere that 14.4 will gives more FPS in 'Super Cruise/ Interdicted' and such. Try out all different driver versions w/o installing/ uninstalling new drivers... AMD Driver DLLs Repository and Performance Survey I don't have that much headache with 'ED' in WIN8.1 tho...
I have heard the news as well, I am pretty hyped for when they are going to release that new driver Downgrading to anything below 15.7 isn't an option for me due to having a 3xx card. Also, as far as I know, it's only a AMD + Win10 issue due to the WDDM 2.0.
Yeah. That's why I'm still sitting on WIN8.1 Will install W10 right away after the all issues with AMD will be fixed in my favorite and most important game atm...'Elite Dangerous' PS. Oh...Star Citizen, where are you?! EDIT: NEW 15.12 WHQL's Known Issues: [59475] Elite: Dangerous - Poor performance may be experienced in SuperCruise mode under Windows® 10 ...still here.
Installed W10. I was hoping to find some kind of workaround on ED issue. Nothing ...tho it will not force me to go back to 8.1...W10 simply better on most things. PS. Before I saw it myself I simply could not imagine how's big this fps problem are. Totally unplayable. And as I understand it will since W10 release? Wtf AMD?!
yea i have to agree....amd should have done better on this one.....i have this game as well and yep....same thing 12fps with like 20%gpu usage, same issue with 64bit exe as well:bang:
After Windows 10 release on this summer AMDMatt at last post this in AMD support forum section, answering to original post...on December the 9th(!): Bravo, Matt. Good job. It only takes 6 month for AMD to acknowledge that And according to ED developers on live chat and on ED forums, this is not the game engine fault. This is pure driver issues on AMD side... Also, 13 day ago by David Braben, Frontier Developments CEO & Founder & ELITE creator: Good job AMD...6 month?! 6 MONTH??!!
@AMDMatt, thanks for your answer. I did not think that you would respond to such caustic remarks as mine Although...6 month after Windows 10 release and only now AMD came up with something...not cool, mate. Especially in situation where this particular bug non present in WDDM 1.3 Therefore and in my opinion it shouldn't be so hard to fix in WDDM 2.0... PS. Happy NY!
The supercruise bug isn't intrinsic to AMD though, the problem is that it's a compound issue - supercruise has a bug within it anway, something that nVidia users also experience (but not to the same severity we have) but it's a problem from FDev and also Windows 10 WDDM 2.0 and the driver base. The reason that this bug has taken so long to be resolved is mostly because of FDev's unwillingness to knuckle down and fix it. (There's been a lot of "It's not our fault, it's AMD's" "It's not our fault, it's FDev's" back and forth crap going on I wouldn't be surprised to see the bug still remaining in the 32bit Elite client in all honesty.
Although I have a 7990. I had the super cruise bug where the game would drop to 10FPS during super cruise but I eliminated it by putting a check in "enable crossfire for DX10/11 games that don't have a profile" option on the 15.12 crimson drivers additional settings page. Originally the game would use one GPU, turning this on allowed both to be used, I also run with VSR at 1440p. Oddly enough between 50 and 90% GPU usage according to afterburner. I realize this probably doesn't apply to you but for anyone running a pair of AMD cards this was the defacto fix for me. I dealt with it the bug for the first 15 hours into the game and I was pulling my hair out. Happened during solo or PVP mode no matter what graphic settings I'd try. I stumbled on this on the frontier forums while trying to see if I could force crossfire in hopes maybe that was an issue. Amazingly it worked and I saw a boost in performance when the SC bug was not happening. I'm now 55 hours in and actually enjoying the game now. Not a single issue other than a few hicups during hyper shift and an occasional CTD when the severs start ****ting about. If you try it make sure you restart your PC as clicking this option doesn't take effect until you do (in my case anyway). If this is driver related? What is it that the AMD and nvidia driver have in common that's causing it seeming they are having the same issue? Also what crossfire mode is forced when this option is used? I'm on Windows 10 64 bit Home using crimson 15.12 dec 17th drivers.
