Hello everyone, i have a xfx R9 280x graphics card, the card works perfectly if the drivers installed are the ones that came with the cd, but if i change to ANY newer drivers( i tried with many, the only one that works is the one that came with the card)the screen starts to flicker, and after a while the whole computer crashes, the screen goes white or black or blue or some color with lines and the only way is to restart the computer. The only way that i can fix it is to install the drivers in the cd again, but i won't have all the fixes and improvements that come with the new drivers.
    Computer Specs.
    intel i7 3770k
    xfxR9 280x
    16gb ram
1000w sentey golden steel series PSU
    Windows 7 sp1
    Thanks

To be honest I think you should RMA it.

yes as i said i tried with many different amd drivers, the latest beta drivers, the latest non beta drivers, some older ones, all of them make the screen flicker, the flickering and crashing is stronger and more likely to happen when browsing internet or watching videos, if i use the scroll wheel in the mouse it also flickers, while playing videogames i don't get flickering but i do get crashes.

it is really late to RMA it, when i bought it the drivers that came with the cd worked perfectly, i only found out about this issue when trying to update the drivers. I can of course stick with the drivers that came with the cd, but i really need the improved performance in some games that the new drivers have.

If it's flickering in the browser go to options and disable Hardware Acceleration.

it is not that, it also flickers outside the browser, i was just pointing out where it happens the most, someone told me to upgrade or downgrade de vbios but i don't know how to do that, and i searched for vbios in the amd site but there is nothing there.

The desktop flickering is due to fluctuating 2D/3D clocks. Bumping up the vcore slightly with Afterburner should fix it.

Might just fix that too, if the GPU needs more voltage it causes stability issues.

Weird it only happens on newer drivers but still worth a try.

when i first bought it, i installed the cd drivers and didn't OC it. after a while i downloaded new drivers and the crash/flickering started. i went back to old drivers and everything was fixed. at that time i thought it was a driver problem and that i would get fixed with the next driver. a few months later i OC the card to improve performance. so the problem was there before i OC it.

Msi afterburner UI -> Settings -> General Tab -> Unlock voltage control + Voltage monitoring

Then you'll see core voltage slider available in MSi Afterburner, increase in small increments (5) until it no longer crashes.

A small reduction in clock speed may help stabilize it without adding voltage and more heat. Try about 20mhz less gpu core and re-test.

My Vapor-x is at 1.250v. Its safe, try rising voltage it should stop crashing on your card.
