Hello everyone, I'm looking for a new laptop that is portable enough for everyday use yet has enough oomph to play a game or two during my downtime. I'd like to be able to play new games on medium settings. I haven't kept up with new developments in computer hardware for years now, but after some basic research, here's what I'm looking at: Dell XPS 15 Intel i5-2410M 2.3Ghz (2.9ghz with Turbo Boost) 6GB DDR3 500GB 7200RPM SATA drive Nvidia Geforce GT 525M 1GB graphics card 15.6” 720p screen (1366x768) with 2.0MP HD Webcam 8x CD/DVD Burner 9-cell battery (upgraded from the standard 6-cell) Subtotal: $769.29 (I get a military discount). Just a few questions: 1) Will this laptop handle modern games on medium settings? I'd love to be able to play Skyrim when it's released. 2) Do you have any alternatives to suggest? Neither HP Envy nor Asus seem to have anything for a comparable price. 3) Dell is offering an upgrade to the Geforce GT 540M 2GB graphics card for $99. Is it worth the extra cost? 4) What sort of warranties / protections would you recommend buying? I've only ever built machines from scratch; I've never had to buy customer support before and it seems like a racket to me. 5) Is it worth it to spring for a 1080p screen? Only $150 extra.
