Hello guys , I need a new drive , 3TB or 4TB , but I have some problems, in my country external HDDs are much cheaper than internal HDDs , even the same model ,I am inclined to buy a external HDD , open it and use as internal.

This is the drive: Seagate Expansion 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV4000100

But I have some questions about it , first I have a X58 motherboard , from what I read I can use a 2.2TB+ HDD as data drive (not boot) if I choose GPT partition (I am using 7 64Bits) , but this external HDD come with MBR partition , all I need is to reformat with GPT right?

The other question is ,I found a video of opening a version of this 3TB HDD , anyone know if the 4TB is the same way?I cant post the video link but the title is: How to disassemble the Seagate Expansion Desktop Hard drive (3TB).

    4TB external = $270 | 4TB internal = $400 , same model btw.

if you guys have any more ideas you can give it too.

    Thanks!

This post will give you information on GPT and what OS's and scenarios it can be used with.

As far as opening the HDD external case with the 4 TB HDD, I would assume it would be exactly the same procedure if the outside case and model number are the same except that it indicates 4 TB HDD.

I am assuming this is the link to the video you are referring to.

This is the same operation but using a screw driver.

Many thanks for the links mate , yes this is the video , with screw driver looks like easier , but I still have a another question left , you can use the SATA->USB 3.0 adapter for others HDDs , but and the power adapter? If I put another brand hardrive in the adapter for example , I will need to use the power adapter? I ask this because if its OK to use , I dont need to buy a new HDD case or something like this.

    Thanks

Yes, you may use any Sata HDD along with the power adapter no matter what size the HDD. You will need to use the power adapter because of the power requirements of the HDD.
