Hiya folks. So while I do have a 480GB SSD drive to boot up my OS and other programs... I do keep my Steams/Origins library in two regular SATA 7200RPM drives. Recently I have installed a M2 based 16GB Intel Optane memory since I was told that can help with speeding up the loading of the games a bit. After reading up on it, I found that there is a feature in my MSI Z370 board called Optane Genie that I have to enable and when I do so, I got an warning that I might loose my data. Now the question is, is this referring to me losing data on the 16GB Optane memory (which is empty) or my C drive which has my OS and all? I hate to turn it on and then have to reinstall the OS and all the other stuffs when the performance gain might be minimum? Thanks for any insight.
Optane Genie requires the storage controller to be operating in RAID mode with associated IRST raid drivers installed, theres no simple method to my knowledge of converting an AHCI install to RAID. MSI's own setup pdf https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81C8Kd65AES.pdf
Have no idea how this actually works in practice but a word of caution, I did a similar thing with storemi when it first came out where it links a faster ssd drive with a HDD to give faster access however what they didnt make clear was if you decide to stop using it you have to format the drives plus if you reinstall windows you lose the data as well, not sure if it works the same but it was a real pain for me when I reinstalled and didnt realise this beforehand
Ok, after turning on the feature, the system will automatically going back to the BIOS screen instead of trying to boot up to my C drive each time I restart the computer and it will not see my C drive anymore so I updated the BIOS as well as downloaded the latest chipset/RST driver and it is still doing the same thing. I guess I will just leave it like this for now till I have to reinstall the OS and try again. Thanks for the help.
