For SandForce based SSD, does it have speed issue?

On this article, rated speed was reachable on out of the box or formatted state. If there are data written on it, it would be slower.

On HDTune test, read speeds over sectors containing data gets a lower reading and rated speed can be seen over empty sectors.
Is this true? Does the same performance seen in higher capacity models like 128GB and 256GB?

    Interesting pics and article:)
I need to sell my Agility 3. I'll get Vertex 4. Hope it has none of those issues :O

From what I have read, the Indilinx Controller in the Vertex 4 is susposed to be more reliable than Sandforce and Marvell Controllers. I wouldn't mind getting my hand on a couple of these SSDs to test out.

Also it has RC frimware now. So BSODs are guaranteed :nerd:

i've noticed that about 4 years back with my first Samsung SSDs. I believe it was ss410 controller.
Then i saw it repeating over and over with others that i've had so i assumed that if it happen only with this one benchmark it must be sort of benchmark error.

I haven't read of anything like that happening, yet. So far so good. :nerd:

    That's a Marvell based SSD :)

I'm also seeing a fluctuation with my SSD, but I don't think it's because of data being stored seeing that almost half of my SSD is filled with data at the moment, something else might be causing these performance drops.

It looks like it's going into write throttled mode. Sandforce based SSDs are notorious for doing that.

Do other storage benchmark show the same performance reading between fresh SandForce SSD and installed with OS?

Ah, I see someone has already posted how Samsungs controller gets on, but to confirm, here's my 256 Samsung 830

As you can see, the first 60% of the drive is full, and has around a 20MB/s performance deficit compared to free space, impressive.

I just bought a corsair Force 3 Sandforce so figured I'd throw in my 2c worth...not happy atm.

    Seagate Barracuda (brand new).

As you can see my Seagate read speed is not far behind the SSD....

You need a MB with intel's SATA 3 support. When I had X58, I had the same feeling.

Also, I read on OCZ forums that HDD Tune has some issues with SSD and it's coded for HDD. Need an update, but still nothing! :nerd:

Pill I think you may get better performance from the Intel SATA2 ports... when I had P55 with the Marvell SATA3 controller the Intel SATA2 controller performed better.

LOL @ you guys. There are no Intel ports on an AMD motherboard. AMD uses their own sata controller plus theres a couple Marvell ports as well. Which I would not recommend using for anything but storage.

He's running tests that use incompressable data. Hence the low read/write numbers. As Xzibit said, HD Tune was never meant for SSDs and according to AS SSD, that SSD is not aligned properly. If he wants to see actual performance, he needs to do a 4k alignment and run ATTO. That's was Corsair uses to determin read/write speeds. It should looks something similar to this:

    Corsair Force 3 60GB/Asus Sabertooth 990FX/AMD 1090T @ 4.5GHz

    Hey guys thx for reply.

OK so I don't have any Intel controllers as my board is AMD. Does this mean I need an SSD that doesn't use Sandforce?

Not quite sure what to do, but I can return the drive today if need be...
