im running win 7 32bit/2x1gb sticks dual channel
if i add another 1gb stick would the 3 sticks make it not run in dual channel?
would it be a gain or drop performance wise like the speed decreasing?
    thanks

Three sticks would no longer be dual channel. They have to be in matched pairs, like you currently have, or you'd have to add two more sticks to remain in dc. With your current setup that would be near pointless, as your 32-bit OS would only see just over 3GB of that and you'd have to shell out for 2 more GB in ram.

I was in a similar boat as you last year, running an older X2 system w/ 32-bit Windows. I was also trying to max out the performance of my machine, but after researching things, came to the conclusion it wasn't worth it. Then I began saving for the new machine :)

    hmmm,so i should get win 7 x64
would 4x1gb sticks run same speed as 2x2gb sticks?
2x1gb would be cheaper as im ona budget
