Well that was interesting, so this makes Quake II on my i7 core, GTX1080, 16 GIG, W10, run like how it did on my 386 25mhz 2 megs with MMX support back in the late 90's, how nice of them. lol

I turned it up to eleven, and it looked great - but fps was 3-10 !

    Just goes to show....

Not sure if it was lowering the settings from 100% resolution scaling to 70% (of 2560x1440) and the Global Illumination from High to Medium or switching to the v435.27 beta driver with the new VRR Graphics setting enabled in Windows 10 v1903 build 18362.145 but I am astounded by how playable Quake II RTX is now on my GTX 1080 Ti despite the framerate hovering between 24 and 34 fps (previously is was around 7-10 fps). Maybe it's G-SYNC doing its thing but I am using a mouse and keyboard and the game feels fine to play. Weird, eh?

Not a game that I would buy an RTX card for but being able to check it out for 'free' is nice on the old GTX cards.

I'll never understand the buzz around Quake 2 single player. I liked Quake 1 single player but the 2nd one i felt was underwhelming. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of games on my steam library i would play before Quake 2 single player and i'd rather play Quake 3 than Quake 2 multi player with RTX at a low fps.
