The Chinese website HKEPC reports that Intel will be slashing the price of the Quad Core Q6600 to and get this ... $266: In the most updated plan Intel Quad-Core Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz/4MB L2... More...
It looks like AMD will really kick Core 2 Quad's s ass and Intel knows that in advance - Intel will never do such a thing just because of "goodness in their hearts"...
True its intel they will box this CPU in every bestbuy computer you see. While the AMD's are in the corner.
If any application out there would really take advantage of a quad-core I would consider buying one. But for now, no. Even most current games haven't been optimized for a dual-core CPU, sadly .
That's true, but for that price:smoke: I was planning to upgrade to a E6600 by the end of this month, but with this news, i would be a fool not to wait 2 more months. End of July, perfect time and well in time before Crysis hits the shelves, , and correct me if i'm wrong, will take full advantage of dual and quad core cpu's.
but when they will be, wouldnt they be Multi-COre optimized? meaning if theyre optimized for dual cores, theyll be optimized for quads too
yea from what I understand they are making things now multi-threaded, not 2 threaded. So the more cores the better.
Encoding video is what you would use 4 cores for. Pretty much all good video encoding software DOES make good use of 2+ cores. Plus in the next 18 months there are going to be many games which will be able to take advantage of 4 cores. All Unreal Engine 3 games, New Valve games, Crysis, Alan Wake..... and probably loads more that I can't remember.
Jeez. I really am thinking either Intel wants to completely destroy AMD and run them out of business with this move or that Barcelona and Phenom is kicking ass and Intel is dropping prices to get ready for it. Either way, the consumer wins!
Oh wow! If only I can make the wife look the other way while I switch CPUs without anyone noticing!!!!!
The only company that should be shi**ing themselves is AMD. Intel are a company that are determined to never drop the crown again.
